FAVORS: I am ready to be the leader for this team

I see an article that talks a lot about Favors saying he's ready to lead but don't see any quotes anywhere in the article.

I think the rookie hazing stuff is pretty dumb. I think the team should abandon that starting now with the beginning of the youth movement.

More ponderings on Burke as a leader:

When Evans tells Burke to wear the pink backpack and Burke tells him to stick it up a tree, who do you see on this team standing up to Burke?

It doesn't work that way. It's more of an expected respect to 'allow' the hazing.. no fear involved whatsoever.
I see Burke as the type to just say, "Look I'll respect you guys, and you can respect me, when we're winning games .. now put the backpack away and let's get to work."

actually I could see kanter enforcing the backpack issue.

A leader, to me, is a player that understands the importance of practicing hard, team chemistry, going hard every play, and having the pureness of heart to get his teammates to buy-in to a level near his own. A REAL leader leaves the locker room after the coach gives some stupid halftime speech that was just dumb and rallies the guys and convinces them the coach walks on water. I'm not talking about someone who just barks at guys.

That, in my mind, will be Trey Burke.

Are you on steroids? Stop hitting so many home runs. It's beginning to look suspicious.

If Burke right from the get go will attempts to show his alfa-maleness and leadership off the court with contesting rookie hazing and on the court waving players around while still having not much clue in the sets and hero-balling I predict locker room problems.

If your mom had never had sex I'd bet you'd never been born.

I have no idea what goes on in the huddles and behind closed doors, so i don't know about real leader, but by the other definition, hayward definitely sounds like a leader to me.

Here is what worries me about Favors: When things don't go his way, he disappears. Now, there isn't a ton of on the court examples of this, but where the hell has he been the last couple of years? Why didn't he take over games the last couple years? Why didn't he go to Corbin and say, look, this, this and this sucks, and I can fix it. Let me fix it.

I worry that we will get destroyed by OKC and then go on the that road trip and hit the Boston game....and Favors has checked out because the Jazz haven't won yet.

Burke, on the other hand, I could see still getting in people's faces at that time. Getting them up vocally, and by example. Going out and trying harder when times get tough, not disappearing until you play at home again.

Who's to say he didn't? perhaps all of the stuff you mentioned was part of the vet/corbin effect.

If Favors did, and Corbin did, then Corbin wouldn't be the coach. If Favors/Hayward were destined to be leaders, I don't think the Jazz old have had to ask them to be so.

I respect that.. but I don't see it at all. I don't see it in Gordon either, but more so than Favors.

Burke will take the reigns in a hurry. That may sound silly to most of you, but it's the truth. Truth = my opinion.

Burke can't take control if he can't play.

I think Burke struggles mightily in his first year. So I dont see him as the leader.

I agree with all of that.. sort of.

What I meant all along is leadership is a quality, it's very hard to 'learn.' Burke has it. No one else on the team does.
If his play stinks up the court, though, it won't matter.

I think this will be Favors team as in they will go as he does. If he plays well, the Jazz will play well. He will have the potential to have the game go through him if he improves enough offensively and he is the best defender on the team already. He won't be the vocal leader, especially on the court. That will be Burke's job. He has the personality to do that, and plays the position where you expect that. If Favors reaches his potential, I think he will lead by simply giving an angry stare to those who aren't doing their part, while Burke will take that guy to the side and talk about what needs to change. Hayward will be the lead by example guy.
