Following Potential 2025 Draftees

Fears Weaknesses on the video included:

Poor ast/tov and poor decision making...
Low FG% in particularly from 3
Finishing... which is just dumb since his best skill is getting from A to B on the court but that doesn't matter if you cant finish...
Defensive liability that can only guard 1 position which doesn't translate to the playoffs...

Combine all of that and it is just a no go for me.

High Ceiling is nice but it is a very low floor. He comps like Monta Ellis...

If we draft Fears tomorrow and dont get a very very solid asset with him, I am going to be peeeeeyisssed. If we get Fears with the 21st pick I am ok with that because he is really young and there is consensus upside even if I dont see it yet.

In his defense, he's barely 18 and he's running a team in the SEC. I think a lot of those weaknesses will be sorted out as he matures. The question is -- is this the archetype the Jazz want at the 1?

To switch gears and talk about the 21st pick, what are yalls thoughts on Jase Richardson? I think we brought him in for a workout.

He's the son of former NBA star Kyle Lowry..... er, Jason Richardson. He's very skilled. The combination of limited size and athleticism poses a challenge.

There are a bunch of good picks at #21--e.g., Traore, Fleming, Sorber, Clifford, Powell, and yes, Will Riley possibly. It sounded as though the Jazz are going to try to move up from #21 to get a second lottery pick. Maybe a player like Sexton + 21 moves us up.

This isn't Traore's last 10, but last 15 (was easier to find). I standardized it to be per 32 minutes since that seems to be the average amount the top college players are playing

19.4pts, 2.2reb, 6.5ast 50/43/69 shooting splits

I'm bumping this post since it has been surprising to me that Traore hasn't risen any. He had a very long good stretch that didn't seem to give him any lift. He was extremely productive and efficient over the last 5 months on a bad team in a good league. He's not my favorite type of prospect, so I kind of get it, but I still think he has some real upside.

Think his bad start soured alot of people on him, me included. I probably need to go back and watch his recent games to see how he looks. He just seemed very similar to Collier.

I think people swung too far on him. I thought people would swing back, but it never happened. He doesn't seem to get the kind of grace other young players get on his weaknesses.
I'm not a fan of guards that don't defend at a high level and have questionable jump shots, so I do get the concerns.

I have a weird thing with Kas. I watch him and I love a lot of what I see. I love how he plays the game. He is the guy who's lower on my board that I think has relatively high chance to make me look foolish for not having him much higher. But I just can't shake that feeling that a lot of what was working for him in college will not work against better, longer, stronger, more skilled athletes in the NBA. I just feel like he's hanging by a thread on a ton of his possessions. I had very similar feeling with Reed last year and it was the reason I had him much lower than consensus. At least Kas has the size so I think he has a better chance to succeed IMO.

That’s fair. In both cases the handle is a limiting factor, but I also like both prospects because of their ability to scale down if they can’t be a true offensive hub. Could be a personal blindspot of mine. But for now, I believe in both players. I think the handle can get better over time.

I know exactly what you mean. For him, everything looks very difficult. Using everything in him, his dribbling and craft, he just barely gets by. There is this sense that when the margin closes in the NBA, he just won't be able to get by.

I potentially have the same blind spot for Kas. It's really hard for me to imagine that he can't be an off ball player, but it's very far from a guarantee.

I don't really feel the same way. He uses a ton of craft to initiate offense, but I see that as a positive not a negative. He looks extremely comfortable doing it and I think it will translate.

Hmmmm, he does have craft to make something out of some of the drives he does. Sometimes, I think he uses his step back 3 as a crutch when he doesn't have the ability to get past guys. One possession sticks in my mind where Queen got switched on to him and he couldn't create any advantage, defaulted to a step back and got blocked by Queen.
