Following Potential 2026 Draftees

My man is cookin. Question: if they curb tanking, how will the jazz accrue talent?
If the suggestions are put into effect for the 2026 draft (and I very much doubt that they are), the Jazz actually have better odds at hitting in the lottery.

Beyond that, by all accounts and desires, the Jazz are done tanking after this year. They still have a bunch of superfluous picks and it would then be time to hope that a Jokic/Giannis/Shai/Donovan falls in their lap.

I generally think trading for a star is a bad idea, BTW.

Have to find the giannis, jokics, jimmy butlers, karl malones, john stocktons, kahwi leonards, Donovan mitchells, rudy goberts, gordon haywards etc etc etc and develop them and retain them pretty much. Make trades for dudes like carlos boozer and mehmet okur.

People forget that the jazz never used to tank and yet always were in the playoffs.

Could he get drafted twice? Has that ever happened before or does some team still have his rights?

No, he's just like any stash player that has not signed with his team yet. He was actually part of the Towns trade.

I was curious about this last season. This seems to be the case that will set the precedent. There's nothing inherently different about playing in the NCAA vs an overseas pro league. Stash guys just didn't have the ability to get paid or have the eligibility in the NCAA to do so before. Now they do, so I expect this will become a thing.

Teams will now draft freshman (or other players with NCAA eligibility) and stash the in the NCAA until they are ready to sign them. The player gets paid through NIL, and will come up to the big leagues eventually if he gets good enough.

I'm not sure why, but just getting this out there, I think Ament is a good passer for his size. He's not a great ball handler at the moment, but he has good vision and touch on his passes. I also think he can be an ok defender despite his block numbers based on the film I've seen. I would also assume his shooting comes together at some point.

I don't think he's a lottery pick currently and the player I just described might not be super amazing, but I think he will be an NBA player. I think he should potentially stay in college another year.

This blows my mind a little. It logically makes sense, but still feels so wrong.

Agreed, it feels twisted.

If you remember, the Thunder did this a long time ago with Josh Huestis and the GLeague. I can almost guarantee they will do this as a way to manage their excess of picks. Just making up a name here, but they could draft someone like Jake Wilkins with the Rockets pick. He gets to stay in college and make money while the Thunder take a chance on his development w/o using up a roster spot. Every prospect should be seen like international players where there is a draft and stash option. But instead of having to go overseas or GLeague to make money they just have to take a college course for one semester.

The Jazz also have an excess of picks coming up. I expect this will come up in 2027 when we have 3 picks.

So I know you get tired of my spiel about Cody and his weight being a distraction....I actually think Ament might be on the other side of this. Everyone talks about how soft/weak he is....and that's obvious on film. But I actually think he has some game. He can pass, dribble a bit, tries to shoot, gets to the FT line etc. He's also listed at 30+ lbs heavier than Cody weighed in at the combine.

He's been disappointing for sure....but maybe there is some legitimacy to the "he just needs to gain weight" narrative for Ament.
