Game 53: Jazz @ Kings 2/7 8:00 MT

It's sad when we start puffing up a sloppy win against the Queens. As if there are any signs of us turning this thing around.
It sounds like the defense was still a joke, price is still playing, and we can't dominate the crap teams.

Bell had a good shooting night against the Queens? Who cares?....until the guy shows up against a good team he is still a joke.

Exactly +1

Bell's shooting since the 6-game losing streak is above 50%, give the guy a bit of credit. We are in desperate need of outside shooting right now.

Man I watched an OKC/Sacto doubleheader last night. Our D is a horror show. The only saving grace is OKC was absurdly hot from the perimeter. There's just no team concept out there to get stops. And it's top to bottom. Bell only guards the guy in front of him. Deron's getting beat a lot. Drivers into the lane get almost all the way to the rim before somebody comes over to help. Rotations are all late.

At least the offense is looking better. I still think this team is going to find itself. But it's painful to watch games where stops are nice surprises.

Bell is finally playing like a guy who should get 20 minutes a night. For Jerry, it means the last 3 games proved he needed 30 for 47 games to get going, and down the stretch we probably need to play him 35. Even with Miles recent struggles, even with the team defensive struggles, Bell should open 1st/3rd quarters and ONLY be brought back in rare situations.

This is Jerry's greatest weakness as a coach--a total fixation on the perceived strength of a player while totally blinding himself to the massive liabilities of the player.

Exactly +1

Dont think Price played in the second half though. Perhaps Sloan has finally learned put Hayward in for Price's minutes? Uh. without Bell's shooting last night it would have been a L. Rev. 9 did not point out how we got beat on the boards again. Big Al only 4 rebounds.

That's why I've remained optimistic about THIS season... I think they'll all "get it" and start rolling. I can't say whether that will be tomorrow or at the end of March.

Rolling at the end of March. That'll do 'em a hell of a lot of good.

First of all, the Jazz fans who are complaining it was an ugly win. All I can say is get a life. There are no style points in the NBA. If you win in the regular season you get a better seeding and come playoff times wins keep you playing. Yes there are concerns about this Jazz team and no one win doesn't make the OKC go away. The things I like about the game. The Jazz hung tough when things were not going well. AJ carried the team in the 1st, Millsap and DW took over the second. AK played like he use to play. Raja had another solide game. DW played through the pain and gutted it out. Fess gave a glimpse of why many Jazz fans love him. So there were a lot of positives, with getting the win the most important.

However, this might be the worse rebounding team the Jazz have fielded in a long time. Sometimes it looks like effort and other times it seems as thought the Jazz players are out of position a lot. Regardless, the Jazz need to start doing a better job even if it is by committee. Our defensive rotations are embarrassing and they have been for a long time. For me, the lack of defense will be the downfall of this team and is a major reason why they are a 4 or 5 seed every year. Defense wins championship and if you cannot stop the other team then you will be in big trouble especially when you are an average shooting team. I really want Hayward to get the minutes Price is getting. It is time to tighten the rotation and drop Price and Elson for Hayward and Fess. Price, Elson, Evans should get situational minutes.

Unfortunately, for the people who think Evans is going to be a star he showed his big weakness last night which is that he will just get overpowered in the inside and if you have a defender who has any sense he will always play him for the alley oop.

Certainly. Him bulking up and precluding someone from overpowering him is unfathomable. Dude's a kid.

"Williams: Fes, given the minutes, he always performs. He does a great job. He knows the game. He might make a few boneheaded plays a game, but who doesn't? Coach has got to realize that and let him roll with it. … Just him being out there is a plus. You see Fes in the lane, that's a big guy; that's an obstacle you have to get around. He alters shots, he changes shots, he blocks shots. But on offense he does a lot, too. He screens — when he screens and rolls, it's hard to stop him. "

Wow...did anyone read that quote???

ummm, did not say that he can not improve and bulk up. Talking about right now, but it is a little worriesome that he was a 4yr college player and did not add more muscle. He will be living in the weight room this offseason.

Umm Evans is 24 going on 25. I am not saying it is like he can't ever bulk up. But he isn't a kid.

For comparision Hayward is 20 and CJ Miles is 24.

Ummm, shucks. I thought he was much younger. Welp, you guys have a good point, then.

Yeah! He was horrible against Denver and OKC!

Pretty much ever since the Bell is a Useless Loser club started up Bell started playing a bit better. He must read the board?

What is it with the guy is 24 years old so he can't gain weight? I remember many posters saying Wes isn't going to get better because he is already 23 years old. 23, 24 or 25 years old is not over the hill guys. Jeremy needs to get in the gym and build muscle strength and work on his jump shot. When kids are in college, they have less time to work on their bodies. They are going to school and playing basketball. When they come to the NBA, they have the money and time to work on their games. If a player wants to improve in the NBA then they just need to work their butts off. I don't think I have read anywhere that Jazz fans think Evans will be a star but the kid has potential to be a rotation guy if he works at it.

I hope so. Actually, I love the guy's fire. He seems to be the only one who plays with it consistently. But when he was on that shooting slump it was just killing the team. But if he can keep this shot up I'll enjoy his contribution out on the court again.
