I can't believe how many people are excited about this. Who gives a damn? Why am I going to pay $100 more a month than I currently am for something that basically won't affect me?

Right now, I pay $233/month for Verizon Fios (w/ HBO, 'Max, Showtime, Epic, Starz, Encore, the sports entertainment package which includes the NFL Network so I can see Thursday night games, amongst other channels, as well as three multi-room dvr boxes), a home phone line (which I need because of my home's security system) that is unlisted, high-speed 50/20 internet, and my iPhone 4S with unlimited email, web, and text and 450 minutes of talk/month.

Paying $100 or so more dollars for this is freakin' dumb. IMO.

What makes you say this would cost you $100 per month extra? From the original post:

Looks to me like you would be saving a lot of money, not spending an extra $100 per month.

Really? Because I guarantee that's the basic tv package without all the extra channels I have. It doesn't include my home phone line which I need and have as unlisted. They're not providing me with my cell phone service for my iPhone. But hey, they are charging me a $300 install fee.

Moron. Keep blindly suckin' at the technology teet though bro.

For what it's worth Wes, Salty may have been wrong about your case, but Google Fiber could be pretty swell for a lot of people. Also, do I remember reading that you live in New Jersey? It's possible that living out there you have more choices for tv/internet/phone service than people in other parts of the country. On a side note, who uses the word swell in that context any more? I'm off my game today.

You're most likely correct. I believe we pay in the range of $120 a month for just internet service. If Google Fiber comes this way, it's a no brainer for us.

The only downside? For now, it's only in Kansas City. If this takes off with a nationwide expansion, Google will crush Comcast and Time Warner. I really hope this service makes it to SLC someday. I'd rather not have to move to Kansas City to get it. Does anyone here live in Kansas City?

Note the link in the original post that takes you to the Google fiber page. There you see the tv lineup, which includes several movie channels. Maybe not ALL of the ones you have, but certainly not some "basic" package either.

Also note: you can get the internet service for free if you pay the installation fee, but you can also pay $25 per month for the internet for the first 12 months (free after) and there is no installation fee.

So, again, you could probably save money, get most of the channels you have now, and avoid the installation fee.

Or keep the tv service you have now and just get the internet. Surely you would save more than $25 per month if you cancelled your internet?
