Remember Hayward's contract year?

"Can he earn the max"
"Is he worth it?"
"This is a very important year for him"

He improved his numbers as usual but taking over as the lead man seemed to show some of his weaknesses. He had some really bad games. I still remember listening to his 0-12 or whatever performance while at work.

Offseason comes around, it felt like a near 50-50 split on here

"You want to give THIS dude a max contract"
"He could never be the best player on a good team, hell i'm not sure if he would be the second or third"

I liked Hayward as a player. I did not feel he had earned the max with his play that season. When he signed with Charlotte I said "I'll miss you Hayward, but we can't match that. We can't put the future of the franchise in your hands, not good enough."

We matched and he's been a stud and gotten better every year. I've accepted how wrong I was. Everyone must follow suit.

Me exactly.
Didn't want to match then, want to max him now.
He was way better in his current contract year (last season) that his last contract year (just before the Charlotte max offer)...... way better.

-Good relationship with coach and GM
-Leader of his own young up and coming team.
-guaranteed retired number, Utah legend, maybe even a statue.
-Best center in the game who is still getting better.

vs

-less money
-less years
-Best player on team is a 5'10" point guard with a glass hip who will be mega maxed or out the door next year.
-uproot family
-become the 30th or so most important Celtic ever.
-Maybe cracks top 200 of all time Boston sports figures.
-But his coach from 8 years ago!!!!!


How the **** is it 60/40? Why are you doing this to us Hayward? :(

If this is what you think, you are undervaluing him. He and Gobert were the only Jazz players that belonged on the same court with Golden State. He's a tier 2 talent. Top 25 player. Those guys don't grow on trees.
