What's new

I'm not a doctor, but I'm going to say this anyway (about IT Band Syndrome)...

At least the Jazz are being smart with him now. The worst thing that could happen is some huge setback. The most important thing for him is to enter the off-season as close to 100% as possible.

Well they better get with it because he has not been even remotely close to 100% at any point this season.

Off season or post season... if off season is the goal you just shut him down completely and try again next year.

Good news is DL didn't give him a huge extension. Favs has had numerous injuries. There has always been a concern over how he fits with Gobert. I don't think Utah should see him as a long-term solution at the 4. If Lyles isn't going to be the answer (and I don't think he is), Lindsey needs to find a starting PF.

It's unfortunate, a team with a healthy Favors could have contended. Lyles and Diaw are complete sieves. Gordon might need to shift to the 4, honestly.

JJ too. And that would open up more minutes for burks and ingles. I would love it if the jazz would use hayward and JJ at the 4 more. And with burks playing his natural position more, that would even get exum a few developmental minutes too.

Try it quin. As long as lyles and Diaw are sucking ya might as well.

Now that he's out again I think we can say it's not "rest". He's injured.

This is sad and it really sucks for everyone involved

Semantics. Any player who is sitting due to "rest" is probably nursing some kind of injury or soreness. I don't think Favors situation has gotten any worse from last time we saw him play, but I think the Jazz are just being extra cautious.

Disagree. Rest is not indicative of why he is sitting rest suggests fatigue. Knee soreness is much more accurate and common description given the facts. Rest is what you give vets on the backend of a back to back not to indicate they have an injury that needs to rest.

I don't think the training staff has any clue of how to diagnose this or fix it... either that or he's broken.

Or he is just a huge human who is coming off a bone bruise and IT band syndrome and needs some rest.

Favs is a special player. He is highly talented, and loves Utah and the team. I would not throw away that type of employee if there is a reasonable chance he will return to the production he has achieved in the past.

He has played 4 seasons of 73+ games. Last year stats 18 pts, 8 rbs, 1.5 blks.

He is not very far removed from being a great contributor.

Unless there's an obvious matchup problem, I think Q should start JJ at the 4. Lyles needs to develop a consistent approach to the game; so playing him in consistent roles will probably help (i.e. continue to bring him off the bench in all cases).

And a back issue and the other issues happened after a successful offseason by all accounts... which might indicate he's broken.

The IT band issue and back issue are non contact injuries and suggest the body may not be able to handle the loads placed on it.

If you have IT Band Syndrome at the end of the offseason, then it means you aren't very good at taking care of your body. That includes any/all of the following: proper strength training, treatment regimes, diet, etc. If this happened 60 games into a season, I'd be like "****, well... hope it gets better soon." It should not be an issue at the beginning of the season.

This is on Favors, his offseason staff, and the Jazz medical team.
