Jackpotting Around Podcast: Episode 8 - To Convey Or Not To Convey and Let’s Start A Discussion About Collin Sexton

The bottom line is that there is zero urgency right now when it comes to making a decision on if he is long term building block or an eventual trade piece. Let he and Key play as many minutes as possible the rest of the year and see what kind of chemistry they can build together. The front office also has to have a serious conversation with Hardy to see what his vision is with Sexton because it doesn't make sense to make a big investment in a player that a coach doesn't appreciate. Sexton has played so well that it has forced Hardy's hand when it comes to making him a starter but Hardy has gone out of his way to limit his minutes to the detriment of the team. No one in their right mind would think that Clarkson is worthy of more minutes than Sexton yet that is exactly what has happened.

Because Hardy loves the way Key plays and sees the game. He called him an extension of himself as a coach. He does not feel that way about Sexton.
Well then maybe Will should consider the way he sees the game lol. Sexton is a blunt force object I get it but there are no style points given in the nba. That is part of what I am saying may be a larger part of the problem....

There's no style points but style of play does matter. Team building is more than just adding all the most talented players possible. Size matters despite what your wife tells you

I mean, there should always be urgency in team building imo. You can't just sit back and let things play out until the moment you have to act in urgency.

Sexton is not an undeniable commodity after having his first career year with a positive BPM. Not dealing him in the off-season you are at risk of missing his peak value window.

*And obviously that does not mean I'm advocating to trade him no matter what. If a quality deal isn't there, a deal isn't there*

And Collin has fit into the style of play and has performed better than our other small guards on defense lol. No need to try and insult me with the most sophomoric insult possible.

If the Jazz go out and add a really good wing who can guard 2s, who do you think is getting sent to the bench: Keyonte or Sexton?

It has to be solved by Sexton's next contract imo. I think if you want max value on a Sexton trade you want to do it at or before next year's deadline
I’ve been agonizing over this for a bit. I’d love to keep him but I’m assuming the jazz view Key and Markkanen and Hendricks as the guys the jazz see as the future. Also can the jazz build a contender with a Key Sexton back court? I’m not confident they can. The question in that case is how long do you hold onto Sexton? The more I think about it the more I think he should be traded this offseason. What we can get I don’t know. He’s been my favorite player on the team but I’m just looking at what is probably best for the long term of this team. If we hadn’t drafted Key I don’t think I’d be even considering this. I’ve also considered whether the Jazz should or shouldn’t be considering trading Markkanen. There are some obvious advantages to trading Lauri. Even more picks to increase young player depth and increasing how good our lotto picks become over the next few years to rival what OKC has done plus it increases our odds of trading for a star should one come available without sacrificing point 1 of this post. The question is can we accomplish all or most of this without trading Lauri so the question that needs to be answered is… is it more necessary to keep or trade Lauri and if we do trade him it needs to be by the next trade deadline if not the offseason.

If we are trying to win there is no question who it should be as of right now.
