So again, I ask the question... Why?
In the short term? Maybe we get a few W's and maybe... Just maybe... sneak into the playoffs to only be swept by someone like the Lakers. Cool! Since that was so fun a few years ago!
In the long term? We lose valuable minutes for our younger players and draft picks.
To me, the short term losses are offset by the long term gains by sticking with this youth movement. Lets not half *** it here. Lets continue to go full speed rebuilding through the draft.
Play Gordy, Kanter, Burks, Favors, etc at least 20+ minutes. See what they can do.
They develop.
If our team ends up winning, that's great for their development. Helps us to see where we're really at.
If our team ends up sucking, that's great for our team's development. We'll see where we're really at and rebuild using the lotto picks we'll get for sucking. Move Memo and other pieces to obtain more assets.
Have we learned nothing from OKC?
We're not Miami. No one of real value is going to "bring" their talents to SLC's westside. Might as well draft it and hope for the best.

Personally, I like to see a willingness to look at guys with character issues in their past. Unlike most teams in the NBA, the Jazz have a clear identity and culture. It might be Sloan's greatest legacy. So anybody signing with the Jazz knows coming in how we do things. As a result, KOC can take a few more risks because there's no fear of turning into a Sacramento where the inmates run the asylum.

Well, if Corbin and KOC wanted to get the word out to NBA players that the culture has changed inside Utah Jazz, Tinsley & Howard will do the trick.

So just give the rookies minutes just cause? Without having to earn them?
Make them earn it. Howard will push Hayward at the very least, and knowing how competitive G is he'll get after it.
Tinsley is a 3rd PG, no threat to any of our youngins minutes.
Injuries will happen and we'll need players to fill in the gaps. If anything, players like Howard will keep things competitive within the team. That's a smart way to motivate young, inexperienced players. Otherwise you get fat, lazy, entitled rooks who think they deserve to play when they don't.
Yep, it has been Utah's thing for a while now to sign washed up, older FA no one else really wants and be able to squeeze the last few drops of productivity from them.
By the way i have heard nothing but good things about Tinsley since his stint in the D league. Howard, I haven't heard much from, but he looks like filler, just like Tinsley.

Reportedly, Marc Fleisher is starting negotiations at 4 yrs $40 million. Buh-bye.
I'm not vehemently against signing Howard (I'd prefer not to) but if we do sign him it better not be for more than 2 years (which could be a sticking point IMO).

Funny how we complain when they don't seem to be doing anything and then we turn around and complain when they do offer a FA contract.

For all we know, Howard's matured some as he's aged and is willing to come off the bench. If that's the case and the financial terms make sense for us as an organization, I like it. If he's regained his form, he, or Miles to a lesser degree, could be a great piece to dangle before the deadline. So could Watson or Tinsley for that matter. Basically, we may be stockpiling some humble assets that when packaged could net us something of far greater value.
