I feel like we might be asking him to shoot too many 3's. He gets into a game and all his looks and touches come from the perimeter. Hard to establish a rhythm that way.

He did it last year. I think he's just in a slump. He needs to not think and just shoot.
Yeah, a good way to get out of a slump is to get easy baskets and not have ever possession he uses start at the 3pt line.

1. George Hill- A+ - Carried the team in Hayward's absence, consistently made big plays. Only 8 TO in 7 games.
2. Gordon Hayward- A - Took over carrying the team and then some, playing like All-Star. Only blemish is 3pt%.
3. Rudy Gobert- A - Shown slight offensive improvement, better from line, and still dominates defensive paint.
4. Rodney Hood- A- - Great shooting, but goes missing for stretches during games.
5. Derrick Favors- B - Hampered by injury initially, took a while to get going, but was terrific recently.
6. Joel Bolomboy- INC - Only played 8 minutes of garbage time. Energetic and productive in those minutes.
7. Dante Exum- B- - Has driven to basket more, but not getting enough assists as PG. Graded primarily on defensive effort.
8. Joe Johnson- B - Can still score and also shown he is willing passer (#4 on team in APG). Sometimes lazy on D.
9. Jeff Withey- D- - Has been invisible on offence, and not great on D or boards either.
10. Shelvin Mack- C- - An inconsistent performance. Was trying to do too much early on, but has steadied recently.
11. Trey Lyles- F+ - Shooting poorly, not defending well, not rebounding well. Made some nice passes.
12. Joe Ingles- C- - Has been neither good nor bad. Keeps ball moving on O, tries hard but can be exploited on D.
13. Boris Diaw- INC - Would be getting an F- but provided sick note.
14. Raul Neto- INC - Another garbage-time specialist, but didn't do much.
15. Alec Burks- MIA - Last seen on side of milk carton.

Some of those fouls have been horrible calls, and often the offensive player creating the contact. The referees in the NBA do not seem very good at recognizing when the offensive player is causing the contact, especially when it's the top players, who create contact as part of their offensive game, like Harden. But a lot of players do it -- Iverson was very good at it and so is Chris Paul.

I based my grades on my expectations of that player.
Hill is playing above my expectations. Way above so he he's the only a+
Hayward is doing what I expect but I don't see he tilting the win losses like I see hill. Hence the A
Gobert has been up and down some but more up. I would like to see a little more offensively from him to get to the A so I say B to a B+
Hood is all about consistency. He still disappears to much to get an in the A so B for him
Favors is all about health. I am getting concerned about his over all health. B-
Ingle's is what I expect. I don't think he will be much more C+
Exum's defense is all amazing. He is attacking the basket more and getting to the free throw line better. He is a solid B but has the chance to move up as the season goes on.
Withey is blah only aversge. I didn't expect much and he isn't giving much C-
JJ is good but I want more consistency from him. I think the ball should go through him on the second team. This isn't his fault as much as coaching. B-
Mack is doing what he is asked to do but only ok. C-
Lyles - has struggled and his defense is still bad. I am waiting for the game to slow down for him. I still think he is a good shooter C-

My grades of our players, according to the archetypes of the tarot:
Lyles - The Fool. Clearly still on the initiate level, dude needs to settle down and attack the rim until his 3-pointer comes back.
Exum - The Hierophant. Still religiously differs to his team mates offensively, as if he doesn't want to be impolite. There have been flashes of initiative, and his speed appears to be intact post-injury. But we still need Dante to fully drop his balls.
Hayward - The Emperor. Has returned from summer with even more strength and ability to exert his will offensively. His ability to power through fouls and still score shows how dedicated he is to self-improvement, and his numbers thus far are star-level.
Favors - The Tower. Derrick spends too much time on ice, and it portends doom in the long term. He needs to get authentically healthy and stay there.
Hood - The Magician. Has increased his strength, which has helped with his ability to get to his spots on the perimeter and at mid range. Still needs to be more consistent, but all the tools are there.
Hill - The Empress. Don't be fooled by feminine aspect of this card, she is pregnant with grand possibilities. So is the Jazz with how seamlessly GH has fit into Snyder's schemes and thrived.
Johnson - The Chariot. Joe has shored up our bench with savvy scoring and serious confidence. The guy has presence.
Mack - The Knight of Coins. He is great when he is on, but it stinks when he is off. Much better off the bench. Honestly, his inconsistency hasn't been much worse than Hood's or Lyles'.
Ingles - The Moon. He is a mysterious enigma, and looks great as a fourth wing rather than a third wing.
Gobert - Death. For opposing offenses during crucial stretches of every game, that is. Teams must play at their best to score when he is in, and its a famine out there for players looking to gain confidence by getting a few easy baskets in the paint.

I think Whithey is a little under-rated here. Granted he is never going to be Gobert, but we know that already. He has been giving us a defensive presence and had some nice follow-ups in our last game. He puts forth a good effort and is able to clog the lane against the 2nd teams out there. I am not sure what everyone expects from the 3rd string, basically, but I think he gives us more than what most are saying here. I guess it is all in your expectations. He is only in there for 8 minutes a game, hard to get anything going in that little time, but he always comes in and plays hard even with the limited minutes. That is about what I would expect from him. His per36 numbers are solid (9 pts, 6 boards, 2.5 blocks). I was happy with his play, generally speaking, against Miami. For what we are paying we could do worse than a legit 7 footer with a reasonable nose for defense who plays hard. Amaechi springs to mind.
I agree, he's no slouch for how little playing time he sees and last year when he got more playing time he was pretty impressive. I think he'll step up his game as he gets more minutes.
Really want to see what people are saying about Withey. Most of the games starting around 8-10am for me doesn't really let me watch them, especially since I don't have League Pass.
I was watching the recent highlight video of Jazz v Heat, and Withey looked awful in it. Of course, the highlights are for when the Heat made a good play and scored, but overall he looked really tentative, getting bumped around a lot by people driving in, and committing weak fouls for the and-ones. Just didn't get the feeling that he is playing hard like you said. He just doesn't seem confident at all that he can protect the rim against someone driving into the paint. I love Withey and really want him to do well, but it just didn't seem like he has been doing well this season.
How you givin a third string point guard a C+? Dude has kept us in so many games to.
Well, we are over 1/8 of the way through the season. But you are welcome to feed the troll.
He can score but he also makes big mistakes, like trying to do too much, that take our team out of their rhythm. Whereas when a guy like Hayward makes mistakes it doesn't throw our team off. I like Mack but he has to learn when to score and when to distribute.

This. Kid came into the league as a project, so it seems odd that some people expect him to play as if he had a couple years in college. Considering the injury, I am thrilled that he still looks to be an impactful player. His ability to get to the rim is going to be important going forward. I am more concerned about Quin giving him the minutes he needs to develop, once Hill returns. He needs to get completely comfortable with being aggressive offensively, and the sooner the better.
