Jazz players at the World Cup

Good old gif, for the ones who don't drink vine.

Neto is showing that he has the potential to develop into a nice piece. Maybe not a starter, but hem seems like a good fit for what Quinn Snyder reportedly wants to do offensively. I think that they'll bring him over next year if he has a good season with his new club.

Croatia with a surprising loss to Senegal. Tomic with 14 points(1/3FG, 12/14 FT), 9rbs, 2ast, 1to. Unfortunately he again showed his absolute impotence in defending any NBA level talent - Dieng had 27 pts, 8rbs, 3 ast, 2blocks.

So in the 3 games so far, against him, Scola has scored 30, Dieng has scored 27 and Andrey Blatche had 28. And those are not even starters in the NBA.

France vs Egypt is on. Rudy in with 3 mins to go in the first.

Rudy fouled on his way to the hoop. Will shoot 2. Misses the first. Scores the second.
Rudy lays it up it into the basket on a nice cut inside.
Second Q: Gobert starts.
Gobert with a 2-handed dunk inside after nice ball movement and pass inside from France. Rudy out!
5pts(2/2FG, 1/2FT), 2 rbs in 7 mins of play for Rudy at half-time.

Q3: Rudy in.
Rudy with a block.
Rudy with one more block but it's ruled goaltending... it wasn't.
Rudy with defensive rebound.
Rudy out.

Eudy back in with 2 to go.
Catches a defensive rb.
Fouled hard on the attempted dunk, gets the unsportsmanlike foul. Scores the second only.
Rudy with a nice defensive rebound.
End of the game.

Rudy with 6pts(2/2FG, 2/4FT), 6rbs, 1bl, 1to in 18 minutes

I feel pretty good about Neto and Gobert being very good backups for the Jazz. Gobert COULD develop into a starter, but he obviously needs to be able to do more than just score off layups and dunks.

Timeline for Neto is probably 1-2 years. I think a lot of that depends on Exum. I doubt they'd bring Neto over with Burke and Dante both on the roster. Or, if a trade is made to shore up another position, maybe a team is given the option of taking either Trey or Raul.

Rudy has to work on his hands and his strength. He could never be offensive thread unless he can keep the ball in his hands on the low block and in the paint in general. It gets knocked off pretty easily.

Agree.
Gobert's role should be similar to what he is playing right now internationally: give him 18 mins behind Favors EVERY game. That is plenty for year #2. He only played in half the games last season, so that should keep him happy and hungry for more. We're likely expecting TOO much from Gobert right now. He's still a work-in-progress.

And yet he's only 1 month younger than Kanter and he's been playing basketball most of his life.

Spain vs Brazil on. Neto on the bench.
Neto with a steal and assist in transition.
End of first half: Neto with 0pts, 1rb, 2st in about 5:30 mins of play... I counted 1 assist, but the official statisticians didn't give it to him.

Neto back in with with 3 to go in the third.
Neto misses open 8 footer off the glass.
Nice back cut to the basket by Neto and easy layup.
Neto with nice defensive effort, forces TO.
Solid defense by Neto. He's such a pest...
Neto misses the reverse contested layup after nice penetration.
Neto out with 3 mins to go in the game.

Neto finishes the game with 2pts, 1/3FG, 2rbs, 2st in 15 minutes. His defensive effort was good, but he had trouble keeping ahead of Rubio for example. He has trouble with fast players, also not much in the way of playmaking. His physical limitations make his game in the half-court a non-issue for the opponents. Good to see him getting a lot of minutes in the second half, I think he pretty much forced their coach to keep him in the game with his defensive effort, as he seemed to be pretty much the only one to disrupt Spain's offense.

Rudy with 6pts(2/2FG, 2/4FT), 6rbs, 1bl, 1to in 18 minutes

Nice statline. Rudy's rebounding rate per minute has been off the chart in summer league and these fiba games.

To be fair to Tomic, Tomic guarded Dieng OK during the first quarter. Not great, but OK. Dieng really hurt Croatia when the sub centers came in. Toward the end of the second quarter, Croatia tried Saric on Dieng. Saric did great and the coach kept him on Dieng most of the rest of the game. Dieng got virtually nothing in the 3rd quarter with Saric on him, and Dieng only did some in the fourth once the subs were in and toward the end of the game when he got a couple of things finally off Saric. So Tomic guarded Dieng only about 15-20% of the game.

But Saric is going to be great. What a competitor! And Tomic's help defense near the rim is almost always embarassing.

Australia vs Lithuania is on. Dante is on the bench.
Dante in. Nice backdoor cut and an assist to Motum in the paint.
Motum with a tip in in offense.
Great bounce pass by Exum inside, but Motum couldn't control it and the TO is given to Exum. Dante out.
30:20 in the first quarter. Baynes made the difference. Valanciunas is struggling.
Motum with a nice cut to the basket. Misses the first , but tips it in.
Wow. Joe Ingles with a great game so far. I hope it rubs off on Exum, having in mind they are roommates.
Australia leading with 47:28 at half-time.
Exum with 1rb, 1ast, 1to
Motum with 6pts, 2 rebs(3/7 shooting, 0/1 from 3)
Third quarter:
Exum has officially been demoted to Australia's third PG. Gibson in for Dellavedova.
4th quarter:
Gibson in for Dellavedova again... Dante still on the bench.

Game over, Australia wins even though Lithuania made a push in the third and the fourth. Exum played only 4 minutes and didn't get in the game in the second half.
