What's new

Jazz select Grayson Allen at 21

If he’s 6’3 with a 6’7 wingspan it’s no different than if he was 6’5 with a 6’7 wingspan. This isn’t difficult.

Allen does hold a size advantage over 1’s. He’ll be a fine team defender. I’m not worried about it. He’ll be a better defender than Hood, guaranteed.

False

Woulda been lit if we traded up with Denver for a michael porter jr, I will admit. But maybe his injuries are worrying

Hood = Allen is the worst take ever. I'm serious. A casual observer can see that they are completely different personalities.
So pointing out both players having some mental weaknesses is the same as to equating the two players?

OK

OK

Glad you backed off calling them both mental midgets.

Any analogy between the two is really really bad, unless it is to contrast and not compare.

Finishing at the rim is one of his reported weaknesses.
It depends. He doesn't have the strength to really attack big men body-wise, but he can be creative in the air. That said, there were sometimes where he was a also a bit tentative. Not like Exum when he first got in the league, but it did show. That said, some added muscle will help him. Otherwise, it's not for a lack of effort that end.

My opinion surely don't matter. Neither do yours... When I said BPA I meant "consensus". you know? by writers and scouts who are actually paid by websites to exclusively evaluate talents. ND's final mock has him at 38, tankathon at 34, ESPN at 28. So no, he's not considered by the majority to be BPA at 21.

well, except for DL i guess

There's a reason they work for websites and not for teams. Just saying.

One silver lining is that when a team tries to up the physicality like Minnesota, Phoenix and OKC did last year, Grayson Allen won’t back down an inch. I do like that about him a lot. You know that he’s going to be right in the middle of the conflict. I just hope he doesn’t end up looking like an asshat doing it.

Gotta think that Donovan, Rudy and Jingles will all LOVE his competitive edge. That seems to be right in line it’s them. I’m still kind of meh on the pick, but I’ll wait to see how Quin and the staff do with developing him.

Makes me wonder if the draft wasn’t quite as strong as we all thought it would be. 2012 was a year where after the top 10, the best two guys drafted were seniors in the second round (Draymond Green and Jae Crowder). Looking back, there were a lot of bad picks of young guys “with upside” that didn’t pan out.

Sorry guys this was a bad pick. A further negative added to this is the fact we now have Donovan, who has been in a full out attempt to change the perception of this market, and then you pick Allen. Sorry guys, but a pick like this makes a lot of people who cover the league, or are in the league...sort of laugh and think “classic Utah”.

I guess we shouldn't had picked Ingles either... sigh.

He tries any of that tripping stuff in the NBA, especially as a rookie, he'll be a marked man for sure. He better hope his teammates call out back screens for him.

He's probably on the "watch-list" right now as it is.

I thought we were shooting for the moon with the pick because of what we could have done... this was a conservative pick/approach... we could have had Niko who would be a starter albeit with a bigger contract and shorter deal but we could finally see what Rudy looks like with a knock down shooter. That was the safest route and has a much higher ceiling than what we did.

If DL thinks Elder Allen is better than Okobo that is fine... I have to believe he knows more than I do, but there were statistical models that loved him. Would have been phenomenal to trade back and get him while picking up a second rounder to use on a guy that was “safe” and could produce early on his rookie deal.

I think Allen will be in the league 10 years but I’m not sure how much better he is than replacement value... don’t care about the tripping stuff... think he will be good on offense but worry he doesn’t have the functional athleticism to defend at a high level.

Why are we still questioning his athleticism despite his athletic testing?

I mean, I know the testing doesn’t mean everything, but bad athletes don’t test well.

Duke’s defensive scheme is hell on guards. It’s antiquated, and doesn’t offer hardly any help. Even Rodney Hood was better at defense in the NBA than at Duke, and Allen was a better defender than Hood was there.

It really pisses me off 97.5 is stuck at a BYU snoozefest conference and not covering the draft and talking to Grayson. Couldn't BYU wait til Monday?

We have a long damn summer ahead of us and one of the few times I want to hear what the talking heads on the Zone have to say, they devote the broadcast day to BYU football. I've tried 4 times today to tune in, only to hear lame *** questions asked of a lame *** coach about some lame *** player on the lame *** team.

A pox on BYU football … oh wait, that's already happened.

Waking up this morning I love this pick even more.

Allen looks genuinely happy to be here similar to Mitchell last year. Going to be a fan favorite for sure.

Very likable guy and everyone will come around to him when he starts draining threes every game.

I just want to see him display leadership and confidence in summer league. That’ll go a long way towards getting me on board.
