Collins is a good (not great) player. The cost wasn't bad either. The one area I am disappointed is simply that it throws our roster WAY out of balance and leaves us limited options to correct it. We are in a great place for bigs now, but the guard positions are very weak. We have Dunn who did well for us in a small sample size, but wasn't even in the league before that. Ogbaji is athletic and can hit some open threes, but has yet to show he can create or distribute. THT has a skillset that can put up numbers on a bad team, but I don't see him as a full time starting one or two on a playoff team with how out of control he plays. We hope we can eventually turn George into a point guard, but he hasn't even played a game in the league yet and will probably have a significant learning curve. Clarkston is likely opting out and gone. The majority of our cap space is gone now.
This trade would have been a slam dunk if we had gotten Murray instead of Collins from Atlanta and still gotten the Hawks under the cap apron. I would have even added giving the Laker pick to do that deal. I just don't see who is going to bring the ball down the court and set up teammates or spread the floor.
