Jazz waive bye bye to Cotton and Graham

He was awful in pre-season and he was awful in Summer League.

What is a fair shake? Is getting regular season games, SL, and pre-season not a fair shake? The guy made some decent money and got playing time.

He was surrounded by complete trash. The sample size from the end of last season where he actually got to play with our regular talent is more telling imo. In this time frame he was better than Burke and no one would say otherwise. Just a case of Burke and Neto being homegrown products, and with the trade value of all 3 being next to nothing, they get the nod.

he got a fair deal. The jazz don't cut bait without better reasons than anyone on this board has.

Update: I told my 3 year old and he immediately burst into HUGE crocodile tears. He sat on my lap and cried it out for a good 10 minutes. I easily had the biggest Bryce Cotton fan under the age of 10 in the world on my lap and he was having the hardest time understanding why. At the end of the day, I hope Dennis Lindsey gets some players that will win back my Jr. Jazzer's confidence in management. If it was his choice, DL might be out of a job. I'll have to teach him some of the finer points of our team's direction, but how's about that passion! Attaboy son! Attaboy!

You might say he's graduated from A Cup to B Cup status today.

Have a 3 year old son as well but he has not really gotten into sports, but take away his Leappad and he gets furious.

I really wanted Jokic. He would fit so well.

Nah, drafting a guy then selling him for cash was a much better way to go. Jokic is shooting like %80 this preseason. Interesting to see if they go with the young guy or go with Arthur/Hickson.

With the lineups Snyder was trying, I think Cotton needed to shoot the lights out, esp. 3 pointers, to give them reason to pause before cutting him. Not the outcome I wanted, either. But bad time to shoot 4-19, and did not shoot well in SL either, unfortunately. It can't be easy sitting out the first 2 preseason games and then not try too hard. I remember back in March when Snyder was asked "why Cotton", he replied, to the effect, "because he can put the ball in the hoop". Pretty simple what was expected of him. He was a shoot first point guard, and he needed to show he could score. I still don't know where Cotton the good shooter went. I hope he gets another chance. We'll see....

He didn't need to shoot to make the team -- look at Neto. He was lacking fundamental point guard skills. I really think the horrible job he did, trying to guard McCollum was the nail in the coffin.

So you think Cotton is better than Neto -- I liked Cotton, but Neto is far better, as a defender and a distributor. Cotton simply is not a good distributor and you saw how well he plays defense in the last game -- that's what probably got him cut.
He thinks Cotton is better than Exum, Burke, Neto, Paul, Curry and everybody else who ever played PG in the NBA. He swears the Jazz screwed him over by not just starting him when they signed him. He was begging for them to cut him so he could go be a starter for another NBA team.
.
It was hilarious.

LOL the only thing more funny is being a Jazz fan. Enjoy being in the basement for the near term future. And also if you're going to misquote me, at least do it like a man and mention me in it. Never said he is better than Paul+ Curry. Is he better than Neto and Burke? IMO, yes but it will be made more clear after he develops. The Jazz gave him a chance and for that, at least, I appreciate but when push came to shove they do what all the bad teams in the league do, which is chicken out and take the "safe" option. Neto will never be a GREAT NBA PG. Not saying Cotton is right now but in terms of upside Cotton > Neto is every aspect.

Karl Malone has spoken GoFriars. Refer to Karl Malones last post. Karl Malone is politely asking your sensitive self to leave this board. Karl Malone knows best and Karl Malone is asking you to get off the train. Karl Malone know you love Mr. Cotton, but remember if you say that the Jazz are bottom dwellers it means Cotton ain't going to be playing for any team because he can't even make the bottom dwellers team. Now leave GoFriars and cheer for the D-League team Mr. Cotton play for this year. Or, cheer for the High School Basketball Mr. Cotton is going to coach this fall when he quits! By Mr. GoFriars.

I don't know what the immediate future holds for Cotton, but if you think he's ready to quit trying, you're mistaken. He's not ready to coach high school yet. I don't know which he would pick, D League, or overseas. Whichever route he thinks will get him back to the NBA sooner I suppose. I'm guessing he'll pick what he thinks is the better route back, and not the $$ at all. Maybe eventually overseas.

Cotton's got the athleticism. That isn't his problem -- he needs less athleticism and more mental understanding. Would you call Steve Nash, athletic? Not so much, but he knew where and how to pass, and at the right time. This is what Cotton needs to learn. He's still young. He should go overseas and learn how to be a distibuting pg who plays Muggsy Bogues-like defense. Then, I guarantee, at 25, we'll see if you're right. But at this juncture, he's not even close to Burke, or Neto, who I think is really better than Burke, and will be recognized as such by the end of the season.

To give you an even better comparison about the mental approach -- look at Ingles, the guy has an unbelievable basketball IQ. Did you that fastbreak against OKC, when he kind of just loped along and confused the defender who expected him to go full speed and let up, and then at the split second Joe just went in for an unmolested layup? I don't know if you can teach players that. It's an instinct that Joe has and players like Bird or Hornacek had. I would say Stockton had it too, but he was a lot more athletic than those three.

I never had what I would call completely unrealistic expectations for him. You have to play your way onto a team. He was unable to do that. Very disappointing, because I expected him to do just that, play his way onto this team. But if Kris Dunn had not been injured in Cotton's senior year, he never would have made it this far even. He played one year as a pg at Providence, filling what would have been Dunn's role. So, yeah, I guess there's room for improvement, moving forward. Wherever that happens to be.

The Cotton cut was tough to take. I love this kid. I just wish God made him 3 inches taller. 'Course then he would've actually been drafted in the 1st Round and we might not have gotten him anyway. Best wishes, Bryce!

Still shocked Cotton played so poorly.. He's better than that.. He had to get cut though, I guess he was pressing, which seems out of character..

With Dante out and 6' Trey and 6'1" Neto on the roster, it's just not an ideal situation for him anyway, and certainly not for the team.

As much as I liked the Cotton experiment, I'd rather see Alec at point..

Cotton's a pro though, and will go back to crushing the D-league if he lands there. He's young too. Good luck to him!!
