Jeopardy Question

not joking/trolling, just repeating myself:

Burks can be used very similar to how Jeff Teague is used. Drive and kick, or drive and score. The trick is knowing when to kick.

I've watched 80% of the Hawks games since Millsap joined them. Teague is a legit comp. Burks doesn't have the same handles, will get you a few less assists (but a more rebounds).

Sigh.

I like it.

That's interesting, never thought of that. I watched a lot of the Hawks last season as well (big Millsap and Korver fan). So you're saying the comp is how they drive?

You can't keep either player out of the paint. That's both players' first instinct, and they're a real threat to score or get fouled on every drive. If you have that kind of player drive the initial dagger into the defense, and then kick it out (if necessary), then playing with the pass becomes a lot easier. Swing, swing, swing.

ATL has more shooting on the floor than we do, but if we have Hood and Hayward ready to catch-and-shoot, and Favors ready for the same thing at 18 feet, then we have enough space for Alec, IMO.

I'm choosing to believe that Q is making things uncomfortable this preseason for a reason. But I swear to god, we can be getting easier buckets than we have been getting.

That's a really good point. A part of me thinks that it seems a lot easier said than done though.. What if Alec just can't be that player? It's possible but it's definitely something we will need to see happen if we want him to get some PG time.

On that topic, Hayward was great last season at exactly what you were explaining, breaking the defense with a drive and making the right decision from there. I think that's a big reason why we were more effective with him on the court.

Really good point, offense could look great with two guys being able break down the defense. The question is if Alec can take that step where he doesn't put his head down and try a crazy acrobatic shot and instead kick it out.

Welp, it took a little while for it to click for Teague, too. He may have been worse at the "crazy acrobatic shots" than Alec has been. Teague has been better the past two seasons, but it was really only last season where he became deadly.

Hayward also needed a season of ****ting the bed before he got better at it. During Corbin's last year, Hayward was not efficient.

Right now, Alec's biggest problem is spacing. That's Rudy and Favors' biggest problem, too. Hood and Hayward are obviously the best guys available to fix that problem.

while I agree that Alec should take more open 3s, I think this issue is more than likely systemic over individualistic, as I have seen the same response from most of the rest of the team. Our team motto has become "pump-fake at the 3pt line and drive into traffic".

This shot is anywhere from 20 to 25 feet away from the rim on a basketball court and is worth 3 points.

"What is a 3 pointer and why the **** don't you take any Alec?"

Seriously though. It's been 6 preseason games and Burks has taken a grand total of four 3 point shots.

What is the most efficient shot in basketball and is 15 feet from the hoop and completely uncontested? AB answers... Free throws bitch... I'm taking those at Lebron frequency. (AB then kicks over the podium display and walks off the stage)

That isn't how Jeopardy works.

And people can keep ignoring the point of this all they want. Our team needs more spacing and Burks is a capable 3pt shooter, he needs to take more. It helps the team have better offensive spacing. Burks shooting FT's is nice, but it's an individual thing. If he just wants to be a great 6th man, then fine, don't worry about improving your 3pt game.

It's not systematic, Quin isn't telling players to pass up 3pt shots. He has actually been yelling at players to shoot 3 pointers, he did so very audibly to Burks and Hood during the pre-season.

The only players that have the "Pump fake an open 3 and drive into a crowd" bug are Millsap, Booker, and Burks. Millsap and Booker are really mediocre shooters, so it's less disappointing when they do it. Burks has the opportunity to help his team improve one of their biggest weaknesses but is scared and hesitant to do so.

Michael Jordan averaged 1.7 3's per game in his career.

I like Alec Burks focused on getting to the free throw line

What is: hes not a very good three point shooter and really never has been?

I'll take Alec and his strengths and weaknesses for $500 please Alex.
