John Collins Hype & Appreciation Thread

Kind of insane Collins is shooting 43% from 3 this year. The last time I looked it was like 29%, but that's the fun of the early season is looking at season stats as the drastically swing in a few games.

The only issue Collins has as a shooter is that horrible hitch at the end of his shot. It's not massive, but it's big enough where contest really bother his shot and a few of them have been tipped leaving his hand. Also explains why he is such a good corner shooter, but the extra distance gives him trouble.

At the very least we are rehabbing his value a bit I feel. He might not be a huge positive, but he can certainly be a neutral asset in a trade for a star.

And this from the guy who said no way Kessler is any kind of rebounder because he was only averaging 0.4 rpg more than Lauri and Collins...after like 4 games. Need to call it both ways ump.

Collins is exactly the dawg we needed on this team. We were a little too soft before and along those lines, game ball to Big John for the way he diffused Memphis’ Bully Ball strategy last night. People talk about the Gobert trade and the Mitchell trade but history will show that the Collins deal was equally one sided in our favor.

Well...maybe not "equally", but it has been a good get so far.

Sir, what?

I said Kessler isnt an elite rebounder. I didnt say he wasnt a rebounder at all.

Yes and you cited him being only 0.4 rpg ahead of our other bigs as evidence. 4 games in. Yet here you mention how much things can change with small sample sizes at the beginning of the season. Benefits of small sample sizes appear to be highly subjective.

This is one of the most useless threads ever created... but since we really lack anything positive I wanted to highlight that amid our horrible 6 game start, John Collins is averaging career bests in assists and steals, despite playing only 22 mpg.

In addition to those two outright career bests, per 36 he is averaging:
Career best in points (23.7)
Career 2nd best rebounds (11.0)
Career 2nd best in blocks (1.6)

Small sample and playing against second units explains most of the improvements. However I do think his play has been one of the least disastrous parts of this opening stretch.

Good stats.
Even without looking at any stats I have felt he has been incredible so far this season all things considered. And he always plays hard as ****.

It seems like other teams would want him if they were paying close attention, but they probably aren't.

IMO, he’s gotten the same kind of green light as Lauri to expand his game. He’s a a career high usage and doing more playmaking than he ever has. I think this will settle down a bit…but he’s clearly getting the opportunity to do more and it’s not been that bad tbh. At this stage he’s a better self creator than Lauri.

I still don’t think he’s a good fit for Hardy’s system and ideally he’d be in a more PnR centric offense….but it’s good for him to show some versatility. He played great at the end of last year and he’s been pretty good this year in a role that isn’t ideal. At the very least, I’m feeling that he’s not the disastrous player we saw at the beginning of last season.

His contract makes him extremely hard to trade, but he could help teams win right now. As for the Jazz future, I see him in the same boat as Sexton. Can only be a backup here, but maybe a really good backup. They’re almost the same age anyways.

Yeah his post ups at least are better than Lauri's thus far.

Lowest of low bars...

Anyway, it's too bad the league isn't exactly enamored with 6'8'' centers posting people up these days. If Collins wants another multiyear NBA deal somewhere after this one, he'll have to accept that his future role is the same one he tried to escape in Atlanta – floor spacer.

Offense was never Collins' problem, though. His problem is that he can't guard centers.
