Keyonte George’s Star Ascension

Just can't get over the offensive leap that Keyonte has made this year. The leap in efficiency has been unlike anything I have seen. Plotted players averaging 20+ PPG this season compared to TS%, and its really cool to see the company Lauri/Keyonte are in for their scoring efficiency.

We are already a top 5 offense this season with the shenanigans. Excited to see this duo unleashed next season.

I'm not the first person to mention this name, but Jamal Murray is a pretty decent comparison for his caliber IMO. They aren't exactly the same, but they share that offensive versatility where they can thrive in multiple offensive roles. I also think that Murray is the same level of defender that Key can become. That isn't the most glowing endorsement, but there is a difference between that level and bottom percentile type of defender.

Jamal's career is a little weird where until this season he always started the regular season off slow but turned it on later in the year/playoffs. If he didn't have this weird seasonal pattern I'd think he'd already have a couple all star games under his belt and be adding onto that this year. I think that could be Key's eventually outcome. He's probably not going to be a sure thing, year in year out all star player. But if he keep improving he can definitely have multiple appearances.

Side note: One of the things we've seen a little bit more lately is Lauri playing as the offensive hub. I thought it went well. Lauri isn't exactly an iso scorer, but he can do some dribble handoff/passing stuff. I would like to build on that and have our own version of Dirk/Jet or Jokic/Murray. Those are some all time greats, but I still think Lauri and Key will be very hard to guard in that two man game.

Even with the hindsight of knowing how good Murray has become, I still take keyonte over him if I could only choose one. Even if Murray was as young as keyonte.
Damn good comp though.

To your point, Murray’s previous career high prior to this season (currently at 26 ppg on 62% TS) was 21 ppg (Key at 24), and his career high TS% was 58 (Key at 61). And that’s playing with Jokic all those years.

Granted Jokic’s ability to make guys better might be a tad overrated (Murray thriving without him and the Nuggets playing great bball without him in general), but there is no question he makes things at least a tad easier for shooters and cutters with his gravity and passing.
