It's not a big deal that the LDS church has a stranglehold on the lives of Utahns? Sure this is a small thing but it's evidence of a larger systemic issue.
Stranglehold? Really?

Wow, I hit a nerve didn't I? I don't care what you do. I try not to go shopping on Sundays, as I am LDS. I just find it funny. There is an exception to EVERY rule.
I went to a funeral of a neighbor and close friend of Elder Holland's. The neighbor committed suicide. He was buried in his temple garments and Elder Holland said he would meet his family in the celestial kingdom. I don't understand what that poor man went through to drive him to suicide, but that's not my job to understand. It is what it is. An exception to the rule.
The point is, there are exceptions, and don't get too worked up about them. Your testimony/opinion shouldn't be based on exceptions to the rule. KSL won't air a show, but a sister station will? It is the exception that KSL has agreed to do business in Utah. Same with no shopping on Sunday, but then having a restaurant use your facilities to be open on Sunday. It's no biggie. It is what it is.
That's the whole point of the Holy Ghost, right?

The state of Utah shows how important religion is to giving, said Peter Panepento, the Chronicle of Philanthropy's assistant managing editor. In Utah, the estimated median contribution was $5,255, as reported to the IRS on itemized tax returns.
The states and communities that tended to give the highest percentage of income to charity were those with high rates of religious participation.
"Utah, far and away, has given the most to charity, with its strong tie to the Mormon religion," he said.
Many religions, including the Mormon faith, encourage or direct believers to give 10 percent, or tithe, from their income to the church.
Stranglehold? Really?
KSL has been blocking SNL for years. Luckily the CW picked it up a long time ago. But everything now is on demand so this is a non story.
Has anyone ever explained to you how television works
It's a HUGE deal, actually. Without teh Mo's influence, Utah would never sniff all of the top-10 lists that it currently now boasts. The city is clean, the people are kind, the economy is better off than just about anywhere, and Utah and its residents are some of the most giving people in the world.

But, ya, I can see how horrible that stranglehold is -- I feel for you, bro.
It's just as good as when the mob ran Vegas!
Seriously though, this state is a laughing stock and the Mormon church has done it's best to alienate nonmembers.

Lol wut?
posted from my htc one using tapaBONGO
Huh. A state that excels in college graduates, low umemployement, low teen pregnancies, affordable housing, frequently tops lists of best place to live, best place to start a business (the American Dream, yo), best place to retire, etc is a bad thing?
And you compare that to when the mob ran Vegas?
Come on now.
It's just as good as when the mob ran Vegas!

Obvious hyperbole but many of those things were also said about mob-run Vegas. Utah also has a terrible education system, the worst air quality in the country, a high depression rate, is one of the few states that regulates alcoholic beverages, has a seriously damaging position on the treatment of women (Equal Rights Amendment, parent notification for abortions), and a mostly homogeneous population. Legislation is being influenced by a non-elected organization.
Like...society???? Family???? Friends????The only people that complain about being alienated are the ones that really want to be a part of something, but can't.
I kinda hate it when people go around pointing out logical fallacies but gotdamn, fool. I don't know the extent of your dealings with out-of-towners but there's a predictable national reaction to stories like these. Laughter and disgust generally.Yet you go on about how bad teh Mo's are. So are you jealous? Retarded? Impotent? What is it? This state is a "laughing stock"? You need to put down the City Weekly, turn off X96's morning show, leave the coffee shop, and get out of your hipster douchebag comfort zone/area.
