What's new

Lockout!!!

The owners should just start the season with players that aren't in the NBA or part of the players union. Players that are currently not under contract or playing in scrub leagues would flock to the NBA just to get a decent paycheck. It would take long for NBA caliber players to start crossing the line. Think The Replacements.

A lot of people don't seem to grasp that the players could hire people to run these franchises that they would collectively own, much like the current owners do.

I don't know that it would work that well, but if the season is lost, it would give the players some time to explore the viability of a project like that. That Amare didn't go to college is irrelevant.

There might be a legal viability problem, however, with the union's charter actively funding a new league that's a (potential) competitor to their collective bargaining partner.

There would probably need to be a new voluntary pay-in entity separate from the union itself for something like that to happen.

I know I base all my strategic labor decisions on C-rate Keanu Reeves movies.

Takes a lot more then that to start a league. They have to have a huge support which a lot of people wont follow them to begin with. I would have a hard time watching them for sure. Not sure how they would end up getting nearly as much money as they do now as well.

I don't mind that or just start from scratch. Not sure if they could do that or not but this thing is going to go to the courts next.

I forgot. People are more interested in how the owners look in the stands than they are in what's happening on the court. My bad.

Ya, I'm not claiming any understanding of how a new league could be formed. I'm mostly responding to people talking about how forming a new "players" league wouldn't be possible because the players don't have much in the way of business acumen. Clearly, neither do the people making these silly assertions.

No just rather find something else to do in their lives then watch players put up 150 point games and play no D.
