Longest Thread Ever

So I'll withdraw the lemming tag on that pic.

That's not a lemming, just a cute little something or 'nuther.

Nightmare is finding something better to contribute than morbid hyperconcerns about ugliness.

And yes, there is Beauty in this world. . . . you just need to be able put gas in the tank and go look for it.

I brought it here because you were talking to yourself and I couldn't think of anything to say.

It's called running up the post count, and you don't need to have anything to say. . . .

I also do it just to move on to a fresh page sometimes.

It's a fact of forum life that hardly anyone will make the effort to click back to a previous page.

It also puts you on the top of the list of recent posts. . . . .

It can annoy the hades outta some folks who already know how worthless the thread is. . . . . lol

nonsense codons

In genetics, I found. . . or was told. . . . , a lot of DNA is just noise, nonsense, doesn't have any known definite purpose. . . . .

Personally I doubt that, but let's run with it a bit.

I do some pretty heavy philosophy in here sometimes, and it's as good as starting a new thread to just add some spacer material, some nonsense.

Personally, I hold the opinion that the "nonsense" geneticists think has no function because it doesn't specify an actual product protein, is more important that nonsense. I think nonsense codons play a role in controlling expression of genes, and in aging processes, likely slowing down aging changes by dilution, so to speak.

The problem with having opinions like these in science is they're practically impossible to prove in a positive test.

Some of the non-coding DNA performs such functions.

However, much of it is noise. For example, viruses that embedded their DNA into a gamete and had it passed on, generation after generation. Some of it is formerly functional, but no longer works, like the gene for making Vitamin C.
