What's new

Game Thread Mar 07, 2023 06:30PM MT: Jazz at Mavericks

Added to Calendar: 03-07-23

Since after the 97-98 season I’ve been waiting 26 years to get back to championship contention I think we’ve only missed the playoffs 3 times in all that time. I’m sick to death of being just good enough to be relevant but not good enough to go far. At this point I’d sell my soul, my wife or my nephew @Domino to even just feel like we have a shot at a title. What do you even think we can do if we make the playoffs, it’d be a first round exit unless the other team is hit hard with injury or something. 26 ****ing years that’s just over half my life. So yes!! I’m broke and don’t care. All my competitive fire is in the off-season in building not a good team but a championship level team, and we won’t get there if we don’t add an elite talent in the draft along with trading for an allstar in the next year or two. We can’t accomplish that by making the playoffs. I want the jazz to win as much or more than anyone, and we do that by losing. Maybe you are broken since you’re happy being just decent. Where’s your competitive fire?? Where’s you’re drive for this team being great I’m tired of just being good. The jazz have used the same philosophy in teambuilding for the last 26 years and I’ve had the same crappy *** results all those years, maybe just maybe it’s time to try something different for a change instead of doing the same damn thing every ****ing year.

This is the first time in many years that I’ve actually had. Hope it’s been 26 years of despair because I knew we couldn’t do anything to get better now we do and can.

So in retrospect, I’m not broken, I’m fighting for my team the best I know how. Try being a fan of this team for 26 years of a team doing the same thing over and over with always the same results, and if you’re ok with that then you my friend are broken.
Could not have said it better. Cheers!

I feel GREAT not having watched this sorry excuse for a basketball game. Looks like we handed the reins to Tanker Horton-Tucker again and he came through.

Yes for those like me who didn't not enjoy much tanking even if i think it's the best option we have, it's much better skip the end of the season. I just look at box score while working and it's enough for me .

It wasnt a bad game or effort from us. Also THT wasnt as trashy as some comments seem to indicate. He had one badly missed 3PT and 1 missed FT at key moments.

Honestly it was more about Kyrie going ballistic on us (had key and 1 play along with huge rebound + early clock 3 combo).... that and Ochai missing open shots down the stretch. Good for him having the guts to take those shots but he rimmed three 3 pointers and a layup in the final 7 or so possessions and we just didn't get second chances.

I watch Lauri's highlights and that's about it.

This was a really fantastic game. The Mavericks aren't a great team, but that Jazz group that was thrown out there really played as well as you could ask from them. Mavs really didn't have an answer for Lauri, he was amazing. THT never disappoints. He was incredibly entertaining. Then one of the Holiday brothers blocks a Lauri 3 and then makes a 3 on the other end to seal the win, just wow.

The Dunn sequence where he misses a layup badly, runs back on defense and just takes the ball away from Luka, and then misses another layup on the break feel like a very representative sequence of the Kris Dunn experience. We should lock him up, but I still think he's more of a defensive specialist vs rotational piece. If he keeps making open above the break 3s, then I'm probably wrong.

I didn't realize that Damian Jones could shoot 3s, so that was surprising. JTA made a couple good plays, but has mostly looked G-League quality so far. I thought I might like him, but I think he's just not very good. Juzang has made some 3's, but looked pretty bad besides that in my opinion. Fontecchio actually played some decent defense on Luka, but still makes too many mistakes and isn't consistent enough with his shot to be an NBA player right now. It feels like we are asking a little too much from Agbaji. He's looked ok on some drives, but I don't think he's a guy that you can count on to really create his own shot.

THT is a wild wild ride lol.
And no, its not hard to hit the front of the rim intentionally.

Eh, I think maybe he just didn't know the rule. It looked like he threw it off the glass intentionally.
Or he knew the rule and threw it off the glass intentionally anyway. He knows the assignment

It was an awesome game. Sorry about that. Also im sorry that your prediction for Lauri to struggle was way off. He was awesome.

Ochai pretty much sucked, however......... I love how he ALWAYS makes quick decisions with the ball. Once the ball touches his hands he either drives, shoots, or passes immediately. Never dribbles around going nowhere or stands there holding the ball wondering what to do.
Also he had 3 layups that just barely fell off the rim rather than fall into the hoop that were nice drives, he had a nice drive and finish for a bucket that was called an offensive foul (defender jumped in front at the last second) where he easily beat his man off the dribble, and he had a few threes that were just barely off. He was quite horrible but he was also very close to having a good game at the same time.

I really like watching him out there regardless. I think he will be a keeper in the future. Good size, great athleticism, good shooter, high effort, quick decision making. I bet he rounds out into a starter for us for many years to come

I agree. I think he has the correct level of confidence where he rarely takes shots beyond his ability but also doesnt pass up on good looks. Just had a bad day in hitting them, but his drives and shots were not bad decisions and he didn't hesitate.

Agreed even though I know it’s better for us to lose I jsut can’t root for it I’m always rooting for the win
You are young give it another 20 years. You’ll change your tune.

It’s a good thing I’m a horny tank doll or that ft at the end would’ve really pissed me off lol.

But seriously, how do I change my name to Thee idiot horny tank doll?

My only problem with last night is that Lauri played too many minutes. He played 39 minutes and the entire stretch from late 3rd to the end of the game. The front office can't prevent Hardy from trying to win games, but they should put a minute restriction on Lauri. Dude got a big cut on his arm and we're acting like it's nothing. That could have gotten infected, better not risk it. Lauri can still make All NBA by playing 32 minutes a game, no need to push it.

Cuts can be risky. Ask Infection. We don't want him to get staph. Better let it heal and sit him the next seven games.

Agreed. The only thing that could make this season a failure would be a bad injury to a certain player. (im not even going to say his name. Too scary)
Dont run him into the ground trying to win games we are better off losing anyway. That is a horrible idea.

Great game. Showed again Lauri’s versatility is off the charts. When we don’t have Conley to give him those great passes for his cuts to the rim anymore, he is doing more iso drives and creating his own shots now. The Mavs couldn’t stop him.
