What's new

Netflix recs?

Watched Super Dark Times today. Really solid indie flick in the vein of River’s Edge, Mean Creek, and Bully. To lift off of someone online, it’s a bit Stand By Me meets Donnie Darko. Ish.

It could’ve been better. I think some of the development felt rushed or at least was not hashed out nearly as well as it could have been from about the 30-40 minute mark on. I also think in a few key scenes the actors just couldn’t quite bring home the emotion needed. They’re fine. Arguably good. Just not great. Which is a shame because with some rewrites and slightly better performances this could have been an amazing film.

Eden Lake: Fassbender, O’Connell, Vaughn’s gf in season 2 of TD

Solid British flick about teens (led by JOC) who terrorize a couple. O’Connell really is great in it.

Watched a movie called Sovereign
Pretty good movie

Did you know much about Sovereign Citizens going in? I watch a lot of stuff on YouTube about them. Crazy lot. There about on the same level as flat earthers but I think there are MANY more of them. They don't call themselves Sovereign Citizens anymore, in fact they act like it's a slur now, but it's all the same ********.

Dude in the movie was a stupid crazy psycho

Not sure if this thread is just Netflix, but the first episode of the new Jason Momoa show on Apple TV was promising
I wondered about this one. Saw clips and wasn't really interested but thought there could be something there

I can’t stop thinking about this film and I’m going to rewatch it. The first 20-25 minutes are very good. The cinematography is brilliant at points and the chemistry between the four boys feels so natural ala Stand By Me.

I think about River’s Edge and it was so critically regarded because, amongst other things, it had a young Keanu, Ione Skye, Crispin Glover, and Dennis Hopper, four very unique voices and real actors. I just wish this film had that level of talent. It would’ve been exceptional.

Also, mad props to the soundtrack. No idea how they got the money for a few of the songs. I hadn’t heard Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in years.

You're only saying that cause you're a corporation, I'm a free man I don't have to listen to you.

I worked with lad (kid was like 22) about 15 years ago who went down this rabbit hole, nothing we could do or say could pull him out of it. He ended up in so much ****.

Have you seen The Order? It’s a cousin of Sovereign with Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult.
Just watched the trailer. Looks pretty good. Not sure how that one slipped past me.
I put it on my list

I just watched a trailer for Rivers Edge.
It was so bad. So cringy. So dated.
Unintentionally hilarious.

Switching back to true crime doc for a bit.

Starting this new docu series on Hulu called “Never Let him Go”.

It’s set in late 1980s about an American Phd student who travelled to Australia to be with his Aussie gay partner and ended up dead at the bottom of a Sydney cliffs edge. (The suburb he died at is aptly named “Manly”, coincidence?)

At the time police called it a suicide and quickly closed the case, leaving his American family trying to find answers by themselves.

And of course the Aussie police did everything possible to cover it up and not take action.

Don’t let a loved one move to Australia guys, it’s just not worth it.

Just finished this.

Man, I don’t know who’s worse, the Aussie piece of **** who killed the young American, or the local constable that closed the case after a week’s worth of investigation, or the female Aussie detective that did everything in her power to ensure the family doesn’t get justice, or the Australian justice system that took 3 official enquiries to lead to justice after 30 years.

The level of discrimination, incompetence and hatred towards the victim’s family is astounding.

Personally there is no way I would ever set foot in Australia after seeing what goes on there.

No way.
