So apparently, Brice stepped out of bounds on his last 3PA, so his bucket was waived off. In the end, it was a loss-preserving play.
So a little follow up to our side convo that went on. I was digging through some lineups/wowy data, here are some loose conclusion I came up with.
- I still think Cody Williams is a tank commander.
- I do think @SoberasHotRod 's point about not actively being has some validity, but you can be an active or inactive tank commander
- On offense, Nurk is THE tank commander
- A player's on court offensive rating can more or less be traced back to the proportion of minutes they play with Nurk
- Ever player's ORtg drops like crazy when sharing the court with Nurk
- The Jazz have also played awful in garbage time (low leverage minutes), but Cody hasn't played a large amount of garbage time minutes
- Garbage time + playing with Nurk are the two obvious anchors from ORtg
- Cody just started playing once Kessler was out and Nurk got the start, meaning a lower proportion of minutes with Nurk
- Ace gets double whammy because he was on the bench when Nurk was on the bench and also got moved to the starting lineup around the same time as Nurk
- We'll probably have an elite offense under Will Hardy with any reasonable amount of talent
All this data comes before tonight, and of course because sample size is so small one game can shift a lot of this. My general conclusion is that Nurk is THE tank commander, so @SoberasHotRod has a point there. But Nurk being awful doesn't mean Cody isn't also awful. A larger sample size will likely prove this out. The idea of making sweeping conclusions on <150 minutes is the biggest issue here.
