Now that its all star break, What changes would you make on the Utah Jazz?

Here is what I would do if I was in charge.

1) I would fire Ty Corbin and hire another coach. The reason for it: Because this season is already wasted and it would give the players and the new coach time to work on new offensive and defensive philosophies. I would also let the new coach know that this year isn't about winning but playing and developing the young talent and working on things you might want to incorporate for next year so you won't be graded on how many losses you get this year. On the other hand you will be graded starting the beginning of next year so hopefully we can bring you in a good player for next year to help you out.

2) I would trade Marvin Williams or Gordon Hayward or possibly both. The Reason for it: Because I think Marvin Williams stock is about as high as it will ever get and as soon as he gets a new contract I can see his stats going down a bit. I also think Alec Burks is a better player than Hayward and would rather use the money on Burks. I also think there is an excellent chance that Hayward goes to Boston this year and we get nothing in return.

3) If we don't trade Gordon Hayward then he should come off the bench and play with the second unit. The reason for it: Gordon Hayward is not a good scorer and shooting percentages are down and right now Alec Burks has earned the right to be the starter. I also think that it would do Hayward good to watch from the bench and play against the second unit and see if he can't improve his confidence out there. He really needs to work on his outside shot and improve that because I think his game would come easier to him that way.

4) I would assign certain players certain things to work on the second half of the season. For example:

A) Alec Burks would be assigned to work on his 3 point shooting because he can already drive to the hoop with the best of them. If he becomes deadly from three point range then he will become one of the better players in the league.

B) Derrick Favors would be assigned to work on his offense in the post the rest of the season. He should at least touch the ball on 2/3rds of the possessions in the post area, he can either try to score from the post on those possessions or pass out on double teams.

C) Enes Kanter would be assigned to work on rebounding and defense. I think he would be a little quicker on his feet and have a little bit more hop in his step if he lost a few pounds. He mainly needs to work on his foot speed on defense and boxing out for rebound. We all know he can score on offense but really needs to improve defense. I also know he need to work on passing out once in a while when he is double teamed but that will be next years assignment.

D) Trey Burke would be assigned to work on driving to the hoop more and creating contact or dishing out to an open player, preferably Alex Burks or Gordon Hayward as they both need to work on their 3 point shooting. For Trey Burke to be successful in the league he is going to have to drive to the hoop more and create more offense and make it to the free throw line more often.

5) Any player that I decide not to bring back next year would automatically go to the end of the bench when their is only 20 games remaining. Their really is no sense in playing them if their not a part of your future and the future is wasting away on the bench.

Now that you have had time to evaluate the Utah Jazz what changes would you make???

1.Firing Corbin is dumb and just an overall bad look for the franchise. Let him finish his contract. No reason to create unnecessary discourse in the franchise at this point in the season.
"I would also let the new coach know that this year isn't about winning but playing and developing the young talent and working on things you might want to incorporate for next year so you won't be graded on how many losses you get this year."

If we fire Corbin, we would just promote one of the assistants to interim HC. The HC of the future wouldn't be signed in the middle of the season. No established coach is coming in half-way through the season and none of the notable assistants from other top teams don't leave their team to become a HC in the middle of the season.

Bad and unnecessary idea to appease a minority of short-sighted fans.

2. Trading Marvin is a great idea if we really have no intention of re-signing him. I don't buy the "contract year" talks. He is basically playing at the same level he has played through his career. His improved shooting from deep is a factor the he is being guarded by PF's as a stretch 4. He will continue to do that if he is a PF. I actually think Kanter has shown enough improvement to where he isn't a complete liability anymore so maybe DL feels comfortable making the move.

Trading Hayward is also smart if there is not intention to sign him. There is though, so it's not happening (thankfully).

3. Hayward off the bench is dumb. He is currently our best player-maker for others. The starters need him. The answer is to start Burks and take the scoring burden off Hayward.

4. I'm sure this happens. It's what assistant coaches do. They are assigned players and they work with them.

5. What? How do you know who is coming back and who isn't? Assuming you are talking about Rush/Williams/Jefferson. This isn't happening. Use common sense. Corbin is going to play who he thinks will help him win.

2) Williams is averaging his career average with slightly better 3pt %. He shouldn't decline after being trade/resigned with us. Hayward is a restricted free agent, we can always match or do a sign and trade with whatever team wants him.

I would move Burks to be a starter. That is the 1st move I would do. It's the easiest.

I would then try to move Marvin. Not as easy and not sure what the Jazz would ask back, but I would attempt to sell him to the Bobcats. Makes sense and is a fit. Obviously starter Kanter in his place.

Everything else is fine though.

Id trade Hayward to the Suns for Alex Len, Archie Goodwin, Minnesota's protected 1st rounder and Washington's 1st round pick

1. I disagree! There has been plenty of good coaches that was hired in mid season in the past. Most teams that do a coaching change mid season has an assistant become interim HC because usually their is an adjustment period when you bring in a new coach. However, who cares if we lose more games bringing in a new coach mid season, it just means a better draft pick since we don't have a shot for the playoffs anyways. I think it comes down to sacrificing more games this year through the transition period or lose a few more games next year when we have to go through the same transition period. I'm sure no one would look bad upon the Jazz for firing a long overdue Corbin, we went years without winning anything or developing our young talent until DL finally forced it upon him to play them. The Jazz has been more than loyal to their coaches and have always treated them fair probably more so than any other team. I don't think anyone would frown upon the Jazz ownership for doing their job and trying to provide a winning team for their fans.

3. In my opinion bringing Hayward in when Trey Burke goes the bench is a good idea because then we have a playmaker with the second team as well. I think Alec Burks deserves to be the starter over Hayward and we all know Jefferson or Marvin Williams isn't going to be the one that comes off the bench because that's how Corbin rolls. Why should Burks come off the bench when he is playing better than Hayward? I personally think Hayward is overexerting himself and becomes exhausted because he plays hard and I want to see what happens if they cut his minutes back a little and have him come off the bench.

4. I'm sure coaches do assign things like that, but that is what I would assign players not what the coaches is assigning. Keep in mind this is what I would do and not what the jazz is doing.

5. Well if I'm running the Jazz then I know I wouldn't bring back Jefferson next year so I would start Burks in his place the last 20 or so games I also Know I wouldn't be bringing back Marvin Williams so I would try and trade him before the deadline.

It's too late to do anything drastic. If we were going to fire Corbin then we should have done it at the end of last year.

Changes? More Gobert. And for someone other than Alec to take it to the rim. Our offense is just a train wreck of perimeter jumpers.

I agree with the OP

Yeah we wasted years already with him as coach what's another half season, then we can go through our adjustment period with a new coach at the beginning of next year and we might get a lottery pick next year too. If they do change coaches this year I'm buying season tickets next year but if they wait till end of the season then I will wait till the following year to buy tickets. I was a season ticket holder from Salt Palace days 1984-2012 but couldn't see the Jazz doing anything with Corbin as their head coach. I felt the loyal Jazz fans deserved better and I'm sure they lost a lot of season ticket holders since Corbins been coach

He is talking about the jazz front office i think.
They probably have a pretty good idea who they will be bringing back next year

Think they have a good idea of what value they would bring them back at. Like I think they would be perfectly on board with Marvin @ 4 million per year. Also probably depends on who we get in the draft.

Agreed, so in that case marvin would not be one of the guys to go to the end of the bench.

OP said he would figure out who the front office would like back next year and anyone not in that plan would go to the end of the bench.
So if the jazz plan on getting marvin for cheap then the OP would keep playing him

Id work up on offense where hayward dosent shoot 17 times a game and give it to some one who is more effecient.....

The OP is an idiot. First I can't remember the last time a team fired then hired there coach for the future in the middle of a year. This just isn't possible. Also trade Hayward for nothing? Why the hell not start your 5 best players. Burks needs to start, but not at the expense of Hayward. Hayward does too many things well to limit his minutes. RJ is the one that needs a demotion to the bench. Hayward is the playmaker while Burks is given the responsibility to score. This would take so much pressure off Hayward. I would tell him that his main responsibility is to get Burks and Favors the ball and become a sniper from three. His shooting numbers would most likely go up. Then I'd implement tons of pick'n roll into the offense going forward. Between Hayward Burke Burks Favors and Kanter, then in the offseason get Malone and Stockton together working with all those guys at perfecting the pick'n roll. If Stock and Malone can't help them no one can. If we don't resign Williams then I'd rather let him walk and use the cap space to resign our young guys or free agents. If we can resign Williams for around 4 million a year.

So what if you cannot remember firing a coach right now? Who cares if no one has done it. You fire your coach when two things come together: 1. You determine that he is not the guy you want anymore and 2. You "new and improved" coach is available to start. Nothing else matters. If that date is Feb 13, you do it. Why not? Afraid of screwing up this season and missing playoffs or something????

No one is going to take a job in the middle of a season. Why else do you think it doesn't happen. There's no time to implement your philosophies. It's too big of a risk for that coach. That coach can't bring in his own assistant coaches, because he has to run the system already in place. Because he's not familiar with the offense. If he doesn't produce, he could be fired before he ever gets a chance to run his own program and get his players. So your notion that nothing else matters is idiotic, because anyone worth hiring isn't coming to Utah half way through a season. If he did he'd be risking his job security. If you want to fire your coach in that fashion, fine, but you are then going to have to hire an assistant under Ty, and that usually motivates that team to win more, and we don't want that. We may as well let Ty finish out the year.
