What's new

From the box it looks like Teague didn't do much.

It's unfair to judge anyone too much in this kind of situation, but it wasn't promising. He looked very small and was dribbling a lot. Maybe he'd look better if he's wasn't just playing in the JV lineups, but it's going to be very hard for him to make it in this league because he's so slight.

Oni - The most telling thing is that he's behind Hughes, Butler, and Forrest for minutes.
Gobert and Ingles were reportedly out because of rest needed because of Olympic duties. Wonder if Oni's Olympics plays a role in his apparent place in the lineup tonight. ... Probably not?

I hadn't considered that, good call. If I had to speculate I'd say it has more to do with his position on his team, but it's hard to know. If he was at the top of the non-rotation guys like he was last year I'd think that Quin would give him his 12 minutes with the main players in real lineups we might see instead of just strictly with the JV team.

SO I just got back from the daughter's softball game. Is the season in shambles now? Is it time to hit the panic button?

Man, I like Trent Forrest and really wish he could shoot. Teams are just going to back way off of him.

Also, I really hope Rudy Gay has something left in the tank. The Jazz need him to be an impact defender and to attack the rim.

Gay barely got to the rim last year and wasn’t amazing when he got there. There are some numbers to support that he was a really strong defender last year, and those matter, but if you ask Spurs fans about his defense the general consensus is that he’s not a good defense.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. I think he adds to a defense in ways that aren’t obvious even to people who watch closely by rebounding, being in correct position etc. But I also think there’s no denying that he’s fallen off physically (as most 35 year olds do) and that he’s not a great defender in the more visible areas like on ball defense.

I don’t think it matters too much because it’s just the RS, but I think Rudy Gay will have a hard time replacing Niang’s RS production. Niang was a perfect fit into his lineups and really starred in his role. Gay is not the same player and can’t do the same thing as well, but it’s about the playoffs and that’s where you’ve got to hope Gay shines.

I don’t know what that is, but his versatility offers up a lot of different ways he can help this team.

I agree. Niang fit well without being a high usage guy and became an adequate defender during the RS so this is a lot about the playoffs.

Going to be interesting to see how our guard rotation works out. I’m kinda sad that we won’t be seeing Forrest.

Yeah man it’s over… tank time call JL3
This is a no can tank year, basically someone shoved a cork up the cannon, and the damn thing blew up. Lol. I believe Memphis has our pick, am I wrong? So it wold be super sad if the jazz had injuries or something and finished with a top pick type year. Conley would then reach legend status in Mephis, with his very own Statue. Unless there are protections on the pick I hope?

Hughes and Pachall both made good decisions tonight and look the part. Just comes down to making the shots that will be there for them and if they can defend or not.
Who is this Pachall? Hope he’s good
Can two-ways play in the playoffs this year? People were mentioning Forrest playing good D in the first half. How good are we talking? I’d like to see us develop him as a guy who can get perimeter D minutes rather than just minutes at PG.
I feel like he’s been improving his shot. He’s taking more threes and seems more comfortable doing so. Didn’t he hit a good % of his threes in summer league? Hopefully he has a Jason Kidd type arc in his three point shooting. I don’t see why not based on what I’ve seen from Forrest to this point. But he’s definitely improved from when he first joined.
Butler - Had decent looks in the first half but didn't make them. Looked very small and physically overwhelmed by Murray and White. Took over the game once backups were in and showed great skill on offense and some playmaking on defense. 2 steals and charge taken.
At this point I’m not too worried about Butler. He’s smart and seems to have that it factor and demeanor. He’ll adjust.

Good to see Butler played well even though it was a blow out lost. It'll build his confidence more. Would've loved seeing him play in the summer league too.

I'm 1000% kidding. Just wanted the reactions to be overly wild and everyone was so rational. The internet isn't as fun when its rational.

No it is too late for this. I am already committed to the tank.
