What's new

Official Announcement! Gameface Poker Resurrection -- Saturday Apr. 23rd @7pm

Remind me again what your firearm policy is. I'm thinking of buying a sling for my brand new AR and throwing that thing around my back. Couple that with my concealed 9mm and I should be safe. Right?
Serious answer. The rules I use specifically state "no weapons at the table" so I'm going with that. But concealed weapons are concealed and I don't do pat downs or own a metal detector.

So if I put a jacket on over the AR strapped to my back I'm okay?

Yep, should be good to go. And I imagine you won't have to many problems with bad beats.

Jesus, not judging, but glad I'm not playing. Not sure I'd feel comfortable with a dude strapped with a weapon at my table. Especially since I'd get drunk and probably be silly.

You do understand that BigB was joking, right?

Not sure if you're familiar with the history, but there were a couple guys who came to a poker game who were open carrying. I actually didn't notice until more than half-way through. I didn't confront them about it when I did notice and nothing bad happened. They were nice enough guys, had good manners, were mostly low key. Not sure if it was some sort of political statement, if they always open carry everywhere, if they thought they needed protection in case someone tried to hold-up the poker game or what.

I think it was wrong of them not to inform me and ask for my permission. Going forward the rule is "No weapons at the table." That's the rule.

I don't expect you to really know this about Utah, but there is a lot of concealed carry here. A lot. Like a lot a lot. It's legal. There are relatively few issues that result from it. We don't have old west style shoot outs in the streets on a daily basis or people settling traffic disputes with gun fire. Despite what the anti-gun crowd thinks, the overwhelming majority of concealed carry folks are responsible and have their concealed firearm as a last resort to prevent a threat to their life.

The rule is "No weapons at the table" so I'd ask my guests to respect that rule. If you do have a concealed carry firearm I'd ask you to keep it locked in your vehicle. (Most concealed carry permit holders have a way to do this safely since many employers don't allow concealed carry while at work). But like I said, concealed is concealed. If someone did have a firearm that was properly concealed then none of us would be any the wiser.

But there are a few reason why I think a poker game is a bad place to carry a weapon, concealed or not. First and foremost, when the table is full everyone is sitting pretty close together. It could be difficult to properly secure your firearm and equally difficult to access it while at the table. At the same time it would be relatively easy for someone to take it before you could react and it might be easier for people to notice that you are carrying, thus making the weapon NOT concealed.

Anyway, we're all gonna be alright. I don't anticipate a shoot out.

Okay, so I said I haven't been able to find any awesome playing cards that I don't already have, but I did find something that I thought was worth adding to my collection.

Fournier Poker Vision plastic playing cards. 4 small corner pips and two super jumbo pips. Perfect for texas hold'em. The large pips make it easy to see from anywhere on the table while the small corner pips make it easy to check your hole cards without picking them up off the table very much. Plus I really like two-tone cards.

My post was 50% a way for me to brag about just purchasing a new AR, 49% bringing up the joke about the dudes open carrying, 1% asking if I could carry concealed. Gameface says no weapons, and I'll respect that.

Congrats on the new AR!

Like I said, I don't do pat downs and I don't have a metal detector at the door. If anyone is uncomfortable with Utah law regarding licensed concealed carry please contact your local legislators.

I don't want this to be an issue. I respect people's right to carry a concealed weapon and I respect the fact that many people are uncomfortable with guns. I hope everyone at my game is comfortable and feels as secure as possible.

So, Stifle Tower -- Rye IPA became (very shortly) Playoff Push -- Rye IPA and is now Bounty Hunter -- Rye IPA.

70 IBUs 7.5%ABV
Hops: Citra, Amarillo, Cascade, Magnum
18% Rye

Sample was delicious. Kegged about 30 min ago.

Third Cousin -- Scottish Export Ale will be kegged in a day or two.

Expect 4.5%ABV and 20 IBUs
Hops: East Kent Goldings and Magnum

The YES is gone, but it was honestly not up to standards. Very disappointed in that one.

I had no idea he was joking, knew about the prior incident, and have no issue with conceal and carry.

But then there's this...

igralnye-karty-fournier-poker-vision-c.jpg

I just read something about them and it says there are three jokers. I'm thinking maybe there are two regular jokers and then the card shown.

I can't tell what that picture is. Looks like a bird to me but I can't really "see" it.

Kind of a dumb song

I did notice that pokerstars is now back in New Jersey. all legit and ****. Hopefully it spreads.

Spent the day rearranging my basement. 80% ready for next Saturday.

I would have done more but Bounty Hunter Rye IPA is pretty good.
