Official Trey Burke Rising Stars Game Thread

I'm talking about NBA Draft Combine measurements. WTF are you talking about?

i know what you are talking about and that's why i said don't be so naive. and no it's not 1 1/4 inch usually. again, i know shoes. it's my hobby. depends on the size of the footwear it's between 1/2 inch up to 2 inches lift. but yes, 1 1/4 would probably be the league avg. if JJ barea who has same shoe size as me wear kobe's then he will only gain 1/2 inch lift. and when d wade wear Ektio or any other orthodic driven basketball shoe, he could easily gain 2 inches.

nba draft combine isn't just for scouts. it's much more than just scouts who only care about basketball. NBA is a globally marketed brand. when elton brand came in and was measured at solid 6ft 9, there was a collective sigh of relief. There is a reason why orlando magic wants you to believe dwight howard is 6ft 11 not 6ft 9. spencer hawes getting listed at 7ft 1 when he is only 6ft 10 1/2. don't you think there is more than just scouts involved? so did teams know hawes was cheating? did teams look at the sole of timmy hardaway jr. shoe? and if they are concerned about players cheating, then why not just use same official shoe? i'm sure that's not that hard to do. just call nike up and i'm sure they will provide them with hyperdunks which will consistently give player 1 to 1 1/4 inch lift.

it's the WWE mentality of NBA. that's just how i see it. They started measuring height with shoe on not too long ago. Wilt, Kareem, magic, etc. they weren't measured with shoes on. there is no height with shoe on with kevin garnett. chris webber. shaq, so on. I believe nba started doing it in the late 90's officially. every teams want to have 7fters. every teams want their shooting guards to be 'prototypical'. they aren't idiots. they know how to measure players. they are using the power of marketing to misinform fans intentionally. if you go around ask random fans many will tell you bron is 6ft 9 somewhere between 265-270lb. it's just like believing andre the giant was 7ft 4. and hulk hogan was 6ft 7.

this is a good read.

like the author said, all i want is a damn accuracy. or at least consistency. just use the damn height with shoe as a listed height. i'll be happy with it.

also these are minor factors:

1. socks - yes. some players/ballers double sock. i used to do that too because of my blisters.

2. napoleon complex - some dudes like sylvester stallone, tom cruise add lifts in their shoe. and surprisingly some big a$$ dudes too. they just love the fact they are tall, but want you to believe that they are taller. go google andre the giant. you will see him wearing ridiculous cowboy boots alot with giant afro. he really wanted you to believe he was 7ft 4. hulk did the same. so if somebody was getting listed 2 inches taller than his true height than maybe he wants not to disappoint the fans, or maybe he just want you to believe that he is that tall by adding inserts in the shoe.

3. dr. scholls - i'm a casual baller. i know many dudes who buy bigger shoes because they don't want to hurt their toes when they slash. as a matter of fact, my league teammate buys size 13 when he is really only size 12. and he adds gel insoles/inserts because his feet is narrow and he likes the cushy shoe. he is an inch taller than me, but on the court now he has 2 inches on me because i wear my kobes and he wears size 13 foams

for the longest time i believed sampson was 7ft 4.

hakeem was advertised at 7ft, so pimping sampson at 7ft 4 made sense.

Early Yao v. Shaq was the best head-to-head matchup of the '00's to me. Shaq kicked his *** the first few times, then Yao had an offseason of development, came back, and played him pretty evenly or even better after that. Loved watching those games. Bloody shame that dude couldn't get at least 5 more good years out of his body.

word. yao was so skilled. he made a mockery out of dwight many times. and yao was the only center in 00's who could play against shaq toe to toe. yao's unique body type really helped him and also hurt him. even though he was 7ft 6 he had such a short arms (7ft 5 wing span) and such a delicate 'asian' hands. you can't teach that soft touch. lol and even though he was skinny in his upper body, he also had tree trunk of legs. another asian thing. you couldn't push yao around like how you could push around bradley.

i firmly believe yao was the greatest skilled big man since hakeem. and most centers in this era would say yao was the toughest to guard. there was not a move he couldn't do. hell, he could even pull a dream shake once in a while.

my favorite pic of yao. lol dude is ginormous.
