Marshall's inability to make a defense respect him at all makes it hard for me to vote for him. Rivers not really a PG-edness makes it hard for me to vote for him. I like Machado as much or more than both, as little as I know about all three players.

I kind of hate this draft.

It's kind of a crappy draft for us. There's so many talented players at positions that we already have young talent at and very limited/questionable PG talent. We'll most likely get a good SF out of this draft, which is much needed, it just sucks that there are no PG's when we're in a good position to draft them.

All those good things you said about Rubio - was he known to have done that last year in Europe? Let me "educate" you - he averaged 6.5 PPG, shot 22.4% from 3pt and 31% FG.

It wasn't until he entered the NBA that he started playing this good. But you probably would have counted him out by just looking at last year's stats...

Like aybars said, his playing style fits the NBA better than it did Europe. If you ever watched him play, you could see that he oozed talent, it's just hard for young people to play in Europe against grown men. If you think you see similar skills outside of passing with Marshall and Rubio, then I don't know what to tell you...I just don't agree.

Maybe your right as far as Machado is concerned, but I can't say as I've never seen him play

I'd rather have a pure point that can't shoot then a player like Rivers playing out of position, that is a scorer first and passer second.

We aren't drafting him for his offense we are drafting him to get the ball to the other players in the best positions for them to score. Teams can disrespect his shooting and driving all they want.

If they aren't going to guard him against his shot or his drive, they'll be able to sit 5 or so feet back and clutter up the middle. Since our best players are our post players, that's going to make things a little more difficult isn't it?

Alright just agree to disagree and revisit this in a year's time.

Would you have said that about 6 months when he really struggled in Europe with declining numbers, and commentators headlining "Rubio needs T'Wolves as much as T'Wolves need Rubio" ?

Are you saying that when players are struggling you still can't see their talent? I guess you didn't see any talent out of Hayward a month ago then either.

The answer equals fast break at all times possible. Hope he is able to improve his outside shot to where he can at least be a decent spot up shooter.

Scott Machado from Iona is leading the country with 9.9 assists per game. With just 3.3 turnovers per game, he has a 3:1 A/TO ratio. He's 6'1", 180 (small), and shooting 48.4/40.7/81.1% which is very solid overall. Throw in his 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game and he could be a sleeper. His frame is an obvious concern but someone like this with obvious true point guard skills could be legit. My bigger concern would be how much his shooting numbers jumped this year.

Probably through practice. I think someone mentioned he played a lot with the Brazilian National Team over the summer and got into really good shape for the 1st time?

Your bigger concern should be, can he do this against actual competition?

No doubt. Looking at their schedule, they lost to Purdue, a perennial tournament team and currently 17-9, the first game of the year by one. He had 14 points on 5 of 9, 1 of 1 from three, and 3 of 3 from the line, to go with 11 assists (and just 2 turnovers) and 5 rebounds. Two games later they killed Maryland by 26, a game in which he had 15 points and 15 assists. Maryland's not great but they're 14-10 and 4-6 in the ACC. Then they beat St. Joe's in double OT with Machado having 33 and 10. St. Joe's currently sits at 17-10 and 7-5 in conference in the A-10 which is typically a solid mid-major. They also beat LIU by 16 and he had 14 and 10. LIU is 19-7 and 13-1 in conference. Some very solid games for him and the team. They've also lost six games but still...against the better comp, they've played well and so has he.

Also, looking at Machado, he does not look skinny, nor just 180 if he really is 6'1". He has a solid, strong build and is pretty damn explosive.

The couple of youtube vids I saw of Machado's offense, didn't really sell me on him being able to run an NBA offense.

But hey, I haven't seen him play in a game....he would be a nice 2nd round pick.

Rivers= Monta Ellis? I'm not so sure about that.

Rivers=Jason Terry IMO...

Ellis is a chucker with limited range. He plays no defense, is selfish, and has extremely limited Bball IQ. Once his hops go, he's going to be out of this league.

Jason Terry is SG in a PG's body. He has great instincts (as shown in last year's finals. He's not as quick as he used to be, but has some great skills), can score from anywhere, unfortunately, despite playing the point sometimes he just isn't really a PG.

Rivers doesn't have natural PG skills. But his Bball IQ and ability to score from anywhere is off the charts.

A lot depends on where the Jazz are drafting. But my first instinct is to NOT draft a PG in this draft. This draft is loaded with SFs and SGs. Find CJ's, Raja's, and Howard's replacement NOW. We can find a PG in FA or in next year's draft.

I also don't buy the whole us needing a Stockton/Kidd like PG.

Rose, Westbrook, CP3, Deron, Tony Parker, etc are tearing up this league and they aren't exactly "pass first" guys. Go with the best PG available and adjust the system to him. You can't tell me that we wouldn't adjust our system if we had Rose or WEstbrook right now.

I'm sure we would all take those players if they were available. No one is saying we need a pass-first PG, but we do need a PG who makes their teammates better.

And when you have invested two #3 picks into big men, you need someone who can set them up and take advantage of their size.

Well said. +1
