Pogo's Defense at the 3 position

At the risk of being slammed ..

I really like Jeremy and want him on the roster long term .. and I think he can do some good things. However, anytime I hear any suggestions regarding where/how to play him, it always seems gimmicky to me. No particular reason .. just feels that way.

yeah, it's like we all like the guy so much that we WANT to find a way to make it work.

i can't say i zeroed in on jeremy's D in this game -- but i will add that kawhi leonard is not a penetrating 3, so he's not the guy who's going to "blow by" evans.

That is why I want us to draft a Power Forward in the upcoming draft with the Golden State (and I hope not our own) pick (if we get it) to be Derrick Favors's back up. The 2012 draft is absolutely loaded with talented big men and if we land one, we could move Millsap to Small Forward permanently. This would also move Evans to back up Small Forward behind Millsap. Depth Chart:

PG: Devin Harris, Jamaal Tinsley
SG: Gordan Hayward, Alec Burks
SF: Paul Millsap, Jeremy Evans
PF: Derrick Favors, GS Pick
C: Al Jefferson, Enes Kanter

1. that looks like a pretty good team.
2. that could have pretty much been our team this year

He needs to workout with Bruce Bowen and Shane Battier this summer. If he could hit the corner three and "lockdown" SFs (on top of the other things he does), then he has a role. I've seen enough to know that he can be an intelligent team defender.

Just get one shot. Those guys have just one shot.

yea, a good 3 point shot, would be great., but with his leaping ability he should be able to find some way to score well from short range.
Not everyone can hit 3s.

I'd try playing Evans like UK played Davis this year (sorta) and let Al drag a double-team away from the basket and we just throw the ball anywhere above the rim for an oop. Davis could get so high, it didn't even need to be a good pass .. Evans could probably do it with great regularity.

Franklin mentioned what I was thinking. Evans can't be any worse than CJ. If Evans developed his handles and shooting then we wouldn't even be having this discussion. I have no doubt that he can guard most SFs.

I liked how Millsap came up to screen for Evans on the wing and Evans just sat there, forcing Millsap to post, since Jeremy wasn't ever going to dribble the ball, or shoot it, or do anything other than dunk the ball on offense.

And that's why he doesn't play. "He makes plays," but can't box out since he's easily bullied. "He makes plays," but can't shoot from outside 8 feet. "He makes plays," but doesn't think he can dribble twice in a row without losing the ball. I think Corbin uses him properly. He's a pinch hitter, used when players are playing poorly or are injured.

Well said.

Evans needs to work on his dribbling. He's has advantage athletic ability at the 3 spot, major strength issues at the 4 spot.

I think he'll only survive at the 3, but a system kind of needs to be tuned for him.

these are frustrating limitations.
as I said earlier, think Bowen and Battier. You don't even go out to set screens for those guys, because it isn't what they do.

There is always room for a defender.
Just make them respect that shot and spread things out for your skill guys.

If I were Evans, this is what I'd be thinking. It's his best bet.

I remember watching Richard Jefferson earlier this season back him down almost 20 feet like Jeremy was as light as air. Evans will never get big minutes in this league
