Yeah, he is.That is essentially 5 first round picks for Trae. He is very good, but not that good.
The rate for stars is expensive. The Jazz have a **** load of picks.

Don't know if this is old news or new news. Tony almost never comments on potential trades tho.
The latest comes from Jazz beat writer Tony Jones of The Athletic, who was asked if Jordan Clarkson would be open to the idea of being traded to the New York Knicks when he joined ESPN 700’s The Drive with Spence Checketts. “I can tell you just from my conversations with people around the situation, I think that Jordan [Clarkson] would welcome a trade [to the Knicks] if that’s how it would go down. There’s another team out west he would welcome a trade to. I’m not going to say the name of that team and the reason why I’m not going to say the name of that team is because there’s very little chance of that trade happening.”

Unless he can propel us to championship status I could care less as to any of those things you talked about, and just because he played defense in San Antonio. He was hungry then. He’s since been an Allstar and got paid. Maybe he’ll revert back to his spurs days but something tells me he won’t. In my opinion his acquisition takes us out of any opportunity for a star which we need. He's been a both great defender and scorer in San Antonio since his surgery, but focused more on offense than defense since the trade to Atlanta. He has proven he can do it. We have guys on our team like Clarkson that have proven they cannot. Murray on offense is a better fit too as he is less selfish. I wish he was more efficient, but he is better than what we have and a pick or two is worth it. We still have lots of other assets too. If we just wait for someone like Luka to throw everything at, then we will either wait forever because he is not coming or miss out on having a fun team with talent that still has assets to get better.
So say idiotsNothing you said was true.
If your bar is "this player can definitely propel Utah to a championship" you are never going to acquire a player again.Unless he can propel us to championship status I could care less as to any of those things you talked about, and just because he played defense in San Antonio. The Jazz had the lowest # of players ranked in the top 100 of all the major sites who ranked players. So say idiots
Well at least I could say I triedIf your bar is "this player can definitely propel Utah to a championship" you are never going to acquire a player again.
I'm sure Hearsky's mom agrees.Size matters
Yes shocking that a rating system would overlook UtahThe Jazz had the lowest # of players ranked in the top 100 of all the major sites who ranked players.
How in the hell can they be the deepest team when you start Kris Dunn and John Collins?
We would still have picks, but not a crapload of them anymore after that tradeYeah, he is.

I'd build around Trae/Lauri 1000/100 times before Brown/Lauri.Trae is like the 25th best player in the league imo... somewhere in that vicinity. I think he will rocket you to the 3-6 range in your conference but will limit your ceiling. If we are building a team around Lauri that wins a title I think it has to be a sum of their parts is greater than the whole type of deal. I think Trae can elevate the team on offense but isn't matchup proof and will cap the ceiling on what type of defensive team you'd like to be. I just think James Harden is the absolute best version of the player Trae could be and his ceiling isn't that high because of physical limitations. Rockets should have won a title so maybe that is proof of concept but we say James have struggles in the playoffs at times. I think Trae will have similar limitations.
If you are truly trying to build a contender I'd go other routes. Jalen Brown would be the type of target you could get as a foundation piece I'd look at. Maybe if Key gets good fast you have something there.
If you want to build to the middle playoff team type of tier (the "Kangs" tier if you will) then I think there are more efficient ways to get there. I'm skeptical we go the trade for a star route... I think it might be more likely we eventually move Lauri and move towards a "process" type bottoming out OR one of the young players we draft will grow into a star and we will supplement with other guys that fit really well (through trade) but will be sub AS level.
Its not ideal but those two would allow for another playmaker to grow around them. Having Trae limits the other types of dudes you can put on the floor... Brown/Lauri can both play on any team.I'd build around Trae/Lauri 1000/100 times before Brown/Lauri.
Jalen Brown is one of the worst pairings for Lauri I can think of.
The Jazz need the next big acquisition to be a star playmaker, not a 2-way guy who can masquerade as a playmaker during the regular season.
Problem is prime Harden >> TraeAlso Harden Rockets were amazing and lost because of generational choking that had nothing to do w/ playstyle. It's just who Harden was. Taking it as some kind of proof that a heliocentric defense-lite superstar cant win would be a mistake especially when it's a better formula than most.
