The Heats lineup was clunky in LBJ’s first season in Miami. The key is DM Conley figuring things out. The only difference is Wade, LBJ>>> DM, Conley. I thought they played with a lot more harmony in the bubble, and they should only improve with a year under their belt.Conversely, the starting lineup is gonna be clunky.
I think Conley should start, I think him and DM can make it work. Also want to see O’Neale at sf. Ingles has a chance to find a home on the bench with Favors as his pick’n roll partner. This gives both DM and Conley more time with ball in hand and Ingles makes the second unit better.Starters:
C- Gobert
PF - Bogdanovic
SF - Ingles
SG - O'Neale
PG - Mitchell
Bench:
PG - Conley
SG - Clarkson
SF - Morgan
PF - Favors
C - Udoka
Why would the jazz pair Conley and Favors over Favors and Ingles who already have a built in chemistry, where as Conley has none with Favors. It depends on how your count the bench. I think the starting unit will be Conley, Mitchell, Bojan, favors, Gobert. But favors and Conley will come out early. I'm most excited to see what favors and Conley can do together in the second unit. But if they don't have good chemistry then let the favors ingles show get a lot more burn.
Lol. Morgan at SF, no Shaq, no OniQuin would never do it, because Mike Conley is getting paid too much, and is in a contract year but the 1st and 2nd lineups I'd like to see would be:
Starters:
C- Gobert
PF - Bogdanovic
SF - Ingles
SG - O'Neale
PG - Mitchell
Bench:
PG - Conley
SG - Clarkson
SF - Morgan
PF - Favors
C - Udoka
That was the era of Floater Problem. I think things got better with that group.First half of the season the starting lineup was clunky AF. That was Conley not able to hit a shot + isoDonovan.
Like I said I think he will come out early and mostly play with the second unit. As far as ingles Conley goes it doesn't have to be an either or. But if in some strange reality it had to be I'll give Conley his chance first. Ingles had good chemistry with him but he also has good chemistry with Gobert. Conley and Gobert don't work together very well. But Conley is really good and I think favors will bring out some of his better play. Why would the jazz pair Conley and Favors over Favors and Ingles who already have a built in chemistry, where as Conley has none with Favors.
I will also say most of what I’ve heard leads me to believe Favors will mostly come off the bench, but play some 4 when the matchup calls for it. Also is his body in the condition it needs to be to start at the 4 or is it carrying mor wait a center needs. I don’t have that answer but I’m pretty sure he only played center last year tho that’s a big ? IMO.
With all due respect, it seems that once you get an idea in your mind (often at least partially correct, to be fair) you tend to harden it and sometimes exaggerate it beyond recognition. In a vacuum, Ingles should not play a single minute without Gobert on the floor since their chemistry is so good and since Gobert isn't above having his defensive effort impacted by his offensive involvement. Conley hasn't shown very good chemistry with Gobert and has spent all but last year pounding the air out of the ball. Mitchell's gonna try to put up 30 every game, and Bojan will put up any shot that looks half good. Royce is unselfish but not exactly sick at setting people up.
I'm a Debbie Downer. Ingles has been the third best/most important player on this team for the previous three seasons and his chemistry with Gobert is a huge part of that (not to mention that it's good with basically everyone... except Conley).
Which starting lineup?
Cool. With all due respect, it seems that once you get an idea in your mind (often at least partially correct, to be fair) you tend to harden it and sometimes exaggerate it beyond recognition.
The Jazz's five man lineup with Donovan, Ingles, Bojan, Royce and Rudy was the third best 5-man lineup in the NBA last year out of lineups playing over 30 games together (+12.9/100 possessions). Replacing Ingles with Conley made it the 6th best lineup (+9.5). A difference, to be sure, but the latter was hardly "clunky."
And while it's true that Conley and Ingles overall didn't have a super 2-man lineup rating (+2.2) over the whole season, Quin did eventually manage to find a lineup that worked wonderfully with them together (with the bench crew of Clarkson, Niang, and Bradley: +16.4 -- too bad this lineup appeared only in 13 games?)
I'd also argue, in any case, that this type of data isn't all that stable, especially from year to year. Last year, you're right that Ingles and Gobert worked great together, but the previous year, the Ingles-Gobert combo was in the lower half of the Jazz's 2-man combos that included Gobert (very close to the Exum-Gobert combo, in fact). That year, Ingles was much better with Favors, which is likely where he'll spend a lot of time this season.
I don't mean to argue that Quin, by virtue of his experience and expertise will necessarily end up with the optimal lineup choices (though I will trust him more with that than anyone here, myself included), but I think that arguing from the past only gets us so far, especially if we're overlooking the fluidity of these types of things from year to year (or perhaps even month to month).
Yep, hope so!Cool.
Wasn't aware of the success of the Conley/Clarkson/Ingles/Niang/Bradley lineup. If nobody falls off (and certainly if anyone improves), swapping Bradley with Favors (and maybe Niang with someone else) might reap serious dividends.
Didn’t Niang have the best advanced stats on the team in the second unit?Cool.

I think it's worth mentioning that this would also mean after the Clarkson acquisition. He had the highest on court +/- out of all the bench players once Green was gone. It’s not the same thing as having the best advanced stats. But it shows that we were really winning those minutes with him in the game.
So Niang makes Clarkson really good, then. Copy that.I think it's worth mentioning that this would also mean after the Clarkson acquisition.

What kind of compliments are his favorites? You think he likes Ingles’s hair?Right. Not trying to say Niang is the main reason his lineups were so good...but his lineups did work. He’s a good complimentary player.
