What's new

Raul Neto : new spectacular talent

Yea because bring in a vet like Mo Williams wouldn't lead to a PG controversy. Sorry if Burke can't beat out Neto then the Jazz either made a mistake with Burke or they underestimated Neto. I don't see any reason basketball wise to not have both in camp. Usually there are other issues like visa, contracts or financial but to keep him away to avoid a potential controversy is nonsense.

Why are people so afraid of competition? If Neto beats out Burke, then FANTASTIC.

LOL.. an greatly devalued Burke? No thanks.

Let Burke succeed first this year.

Bring in Neto, if he's as good as you guys say he is, he'll become a solid backup or even challenge for starting job. By that time we could have 2 highly talented PG.

That's how you preserve value of your assets.

I hear you, but it's just 1 more distraction that Burke doesn't need. We need to get him acclimatized with our playbook and roster and each player's tenancies.

Also you tend to take a job more seriously if you know you're solely responsible.

Competition isn't exactly a distraction...competition is a good thing.

I would also say you'll take your job more seriously if you know that somebody is gunning for your job. I'm sure Burke is very motivated, but it's not a bad thing to push him. C'mon Nickkkkkkkk, you're better than this.

Yeah but you're then motivated by FEAR - which to me is the wrong motivation IMO.

We should be motivated by LOVE. In this case, hopefully Burke is motivate to win/improve because of his love for his teammates, love for his coaches, love for his family and ultimately love for the Utah Jazz franchise.

I would rather he wants to do that, than motivated by the fact that there is another guy "gunning" for your job.

Big difference.

Don't forget: Fear leads to Anger, Anger leads to Hate, Hate leads to SUFFERING.

Neto won't beat out Burke. That has nothing to do with the reason why Raul will be stashed. Trey may or may not be ready to start. But one thing is certain, he's going to struggle at times. The Jazz will bring in a veteran to take some pressure off. They'll also sign Tinsley as the 3rd PG and a mentor so Trey has someone to go to for help and advice. With a vet in place as the backup - or as the starter for a few months - Trey can slide into the role, increase his minutes as he proves capable. Even Stockton and Deron didn't come in and start right away. Williams should have taken over sooner than Sloan finally let him, but even so, the first couple of months he benefitted from coming off the bench while he learned the offense.

Why Tinsley can't start first few months?

Because Tinsley is on his last legs. It was painful to see him go more than 10-15 mins last season. And I doubt the Jazz plan on playing Burke 30 mins. right from the start. Neto is not NBA ready yet, so the Jazz still need to bring in a veteran. Besides, Tinsely can't shoot. And the Jazz will have two inside players in Favors and Kanter. Really need a PG who can at least keep defenses honest. We saw what happened the last month when Watson or Tinsey were in the game. The inside was completely shut down because defenses didn't pay any attention to the PG's.

Now I will say this...there's an alternate solution IF Corbin and the FO paid any attention to the games last season: Foye and Burks played very well together. Corbin even commented on it once, then quit pairing them up. Re-sign Foye and you could have a 3 man rotation with those players, with a little Tinsley thrown in to keep him sharp. Hayward will need to play SF at least until Marvin returns, with Carroll getting the backup mins behind him. That's what I'd do if I were Lindsey, but then again, I want the Jazz to go with the youngsters and "tank professionally" as PKM put it.

We will not be pursuing wins next season anyway. And Tinsley will be perfectly fine with four 6 minute stretches for two months or so leaving 20-25 minutes to Burke against both starters and bench players. If that's too much for either of them we have Burks and 3rd PG to take 5-8 minutes running point. I see no reason to bring any veteran PG apart from Tinsley.
