If I had my way, I'd wipe out the rep system and institute two like buttons. One for liking sports content, and one for liking humor. This provides an important value for lurkers and new comers as they can see where board opinion really is. I think the current system discourages new comers in its propensity to develop cliques and homogeneous inside jokes. Rep has also been used as a bullying tool. And, my god, the pandering has reached an all-time high. Embarrassing.

Lmao. Two like buttons. What an absolutely garbage suggestion.

You're one of the few posters from whom I expect substance. But.... nice job skipping over my points entirely. I can't wait for the next time you wag your finger at me for doing the same thing.

Tell me, what's the clear function of rep?

I can't speak for Jason-- but the function of rep from my perspective, is showing appreciation of any post (I rarely give negs), along with having the possibility of leaving a comment, explaining what I liked about it.

It also helps with communicating with posters directly, as I consistently have 47-50 messages in my inbox.

Now, I understand that 'rep' constructs a hierarchy among Jazzfanz. And right now, we're in a situation where some of the posters with high rep tend to give posrep to posters who make them laugh more so, than giving posters rep for good basketball analysis. I can understand how this can be somewhat annoying to those who strictly surf this forum for pure basketball talk-- or politics, or something like that. But unfortunately, that just how the cookie crumbles.

Abolishing rep simply because the reps of those who share inside jokes with each other, seems like treating the issue of lice with decapitation.

I'll accept that as a compliment.

As if anything you say ever has a point. I laugh at you, deep down in my considerable gut.

This is pretty amazing insight from someone who allegedly doesn't care about rep. I did a quick search to back up your claim about "not caring" and was shocked at what I found:

This one isn't about rep, but it is an amazing example of how desperate you are to be liked and/or accepted/envied.

Even if you are laying pipe on a bunch of hotties, what kind of person actually thinks that bragging about it on a forum where they are universally disliked, is a sure-fire way to gain cred? You need some religion in your life, bro.

Anyhow, back to how much you don't care about rep:

And these are all within the last month. Your toolery knows no bounds, it seems.

This.

BUMP

So, Colton, what's up man? It's clear that folks don't like the "Like" button. Can we pitch it please?

Likes are killin the reps for me. I sometimes click like right away in a situation I used to check if I could rep the poster at that point or not.

Since the LIKES were implemented:

11,095 Likes given
5,765 Reps given

I really don't care either way, but just to keep the numbers in perspective, there is a limit on the amount of reps you can give out. No limit on likes.

Apples to Oranges

ps. Oh... and you suck Ugli. We're not supposed to agree on anything.

pps- in all fairness likes are restricted as well. You cannot like two posts within the same 3 seconds.
