Republicans love Truth they just hate Facts

The problem with you logic is just because one idea is taken as a truth doesn't mean the the opposite has to be accepted as an equal and opposite truth.

Whatever you say Mr. Logic.
I am just making fun of it all because "all sweeping generalizations are dumb", and anyone that believes them should not lecture someone else on logic.
Take that to the logic bank, and put it into your account.

I know I put it in quotes, and underlined it.... but I didn't want anyone to miss the irony.

:)

Well, the problem with your logic is that you probably didn't watch the video. Yes, Maher made the statement that the thread is titled after. Yet the title of the tread is an attention getter kind of like the ones that newspapers or magazines use to bring attention to their articles. He actual goes through several reasons behind his bold statement. Yes, broad statement are wrong because you can't generalize any group in a broad way. But, then again lets take say for instance cheetahs. Here is a broad statement cheetahs are fast. You could take that statement and tear it apart. How you might ask; Well, is every cheetah fast...probably not there could be some that are older, injured, and/or really slow cheetahs out there. So in this instance would you say that I'm being dumb by my statement about cheetah because that is a sweeping generalization that we as a society accept. My point being that you probably didn't watch the video saw this thread as an anti-republican thread and posted. But, like I wrote at first the most important part to having a discussion is to watch the video before you post.

I must have missed something, where did I mention tort reform or being a supporter of same? Or where did I say that our health care system is just fine as is? If you want to respond to imaginary comments so you can sound rightfully indignant and snappily sarcastic you can always make a fake ID or just create a random quote to rail at.

I was merely taking out two of the main points of the republican plan which you inferred were better than Obama's. If you feel like tort reform and HSAs were not included in that plan, then I suggest you post what you believe the plan was.

If you don't feel like responding and just like pointing the fingers and making unfunny remarks, then keep at it.

I actually already mentioned it in the original post (examples of points the republican plan addressed better than Obamacare). If you feel like responding without actually reading and putting words in people's mouths, keep at it, you are doing great.

Also, you really need to take off your blinders. I was not slamming Obamacare, I was merely pointing out that his plan was not perfect, and neither was the republican plan, but that maybe points could be used to make a better plan than both fo them. Your love of everything Obama and Democrat is really getting old. Obama is not God and the Democrats do not hold a monopoly on everything good and holy in the universe.

But I guess you did follow suit with Maher. You lumped it all into one soundbite and put that out there as gospel. Typical dem response. "La la la, I can't hear you, la la la, Bush lied people died, la la la, **** off and die is the republican health plan, la la la". You sure don't want to let actual thought get in the way of your assumptions and opinions.

These were your examples? Really? More choice and scalability? Care to explain just a little more thoroughly?

(Oh and yes Republicans did propose a health care bill, and obviously Maher did not read it or he had it translated for him by Michael Moore, as it was far from "go screw yourself and die". It was not much better than Obama's, but it also provided for more choice and scalability in the future, rather than simply forcing people and businesses into choices they may not want to make, and that frankly were largely not in the best interest of the individual or society. But of course we can never consider that maybe part of Obamacare and part of the republican bill may together have been the best option. No we need to make sure we put our fingers in our ears and yell "la la la la la I can't hear you la la la" while the other side speaks. Don't want our exclusive infallible logic and knowledge to be polluted by differing opinions.)

LG, relax. I'm not attacking you. It's just when you infer that x is better than y, I expect you to explain why. When you say that you already explained it, I expect a little more than just "promotes choice and freedom."

Really? You accuse me of this:

I guess basically you're saying... "Do as I say, not as I do."

Cool.

Did you actually read that? I said it was not much better than Obamacare and that one thing I found better was the fact that their plan did not force you into something you may not want. Obama's plan has its good and bad points as well. I was not starting an argument around the health plans, just responding to Maher's claim that the only response republican's had was "go screw yourself and die" which is what he actually said.

If you want to discuss the merits of the health plans presented, go ahead and start another topic. I was commenting on Maher and my take on his position in the video that is the topic of this thread.

The attention getter did not work as planned for a person like me. It got my attention and immediately I wanted nothing to do with it. That statement, even when used as an attention getter tells me something about that person. After a while I decided to check it out anyways, and contrary to popular opinion I did watch all I wanted to of the video (half). I "could have" used my own attention getter to indirectly voice my disapproval of your attention getter, Maher, and his approach to things.

I'm going to stop there and step away from the discussion (I should have just stayed away) because my crazy ideas of what is going on and how to fix it would definitely include many broad generalizations. Even I can't be so hypocritical as to go there after stirring the pot. I apologize for the stirrings.

Re watched the video and it hardly had anything to do with Maher's personal ideas. It talks about the right going to extremes like the Tea Party and trying to force Obama and Reps to meet them in a middle. But, is it the middle? Next, he talks about the Health Care public option and how it polled out at around 70% how republicans always get together and push their agenda. Does anyone remember "crammed down our throat" "jammed down our throat""too large bill". Ok, when everyone sits around for 6 months and keeps saying jammed down our throat or too large these must be people that never went to school. Or next time I go to take a test should I tell the teacher don't cram this down my throat do you know how big that text box is. Is that an excuse? Come on... Greek and Irish economies are having problems because of our banks with our poor economy. We have to leave out our exceptionalism at the door. We need to work together with other nations. I love the part where he debunk how republicans use the sense of our nation being #1 is a fantasy. America is great but we aren't the best and we need to stop acting like it. If you don't get what I'm saying watch Trump's ideas on foreign policy. I also love when he talks about how Reps about the inconvenient things called fact like Tea Party being formed and how taxes have gone down under Obama. And how during the Bush administration increased our tax cuts by passing the Bush tax cuts, two wars, and prescription drugs. And how Chaney said "deficits" don't until now all of the sudden.

This is just weird you can't say the the attention getter didn't work and then say that seeing it over and over you then decided to come to the tread. I wouldn't brag that you only watched half of it you sound like the Repubs that didn't want to read the Health Care bill but felt that they had enough info to comment on it.

Exactly. What I was trying to say was... If all meeps are moops and all moops have 7 snorkles on Thursdays, how many snorkles do 5 meeps have Saturday?

"No I believe the correct answer was... The Moops."

I came back to the thread because I was bored, and there were no good threads around....not because it was an attention getter that drew me in. Maher's comments always have his opinion in it.... a person can't talk on a subject without inserting their own viewpoint either verbally or non-verbally. I wasn't bragging, just stating fact. I don't want to wade through most of his garbage to find the few gems hidden in there. I really dont care about Republicans or Democrats... I only want what's best for the people that make up this country.

Oh, now I see...

Wait, wut?

I was going back to:

Does this mean the following statement is correct then?

which doesn't make sense. It reminded me of one of those logic questions that they used to have on standardized tests. They usually use nonsense words and I happened to choose moops. Moops reminded me of Seinfeld when he plays Trivial Pursuit against the bubble boy.
