Rittenhouse

So like… the right’s defense and now worship of Rittenhouse was totally based on their perception of him fighting in self-defense and not on waging some weird and dark culture war on “the left”, right???

Oof!

Just weird as **** culture war stuff. We’re in a dark dark place.

Tell me again that this is just about self defense and rule of law and stuff and not about “ownin the libs.”

I’m sure the interview with Tucker on Monday will be enlightening. Neither will use the interview to promote their personal/political agenda… after all, this was about self defense and stuff, not about ownin the libs

I don't find your post very valuable.
Imagine being so empty inside that you enter a forum to joke around and troll about looting. This is what happens when life is too easy, prosperity is in too much abundance, actual human relationships and connections have become too devalued, and democracy is seen as a game. Large segments of our society just are too immature, entitled, and ultimately ignorant to maintain a democracy that depends on maturity, mutual trust, and evidence based decisions. I greatly fear for the future of western democracy where politics has displaced religion in passion and dedication but is treated with the maturity and seriousness of a sporting event. Democracies just don’t survive when large segments of the population only care about “ownin the other side.”

Exactly. If Rittenhouse hadn't been there that night no one dies. He didn't, in the grand scheme of things, save any lives by doing what he did. I don't mean the shootings specifically, I mean his entire presence there.
I’d the riots weren’t happening nobody dies.

If people didn’t chase, attack, somebody holding a gun, nobody dies.

If the police weren’t incentivized through systemic racism to prey on POC, then they wouldn’t be murdering people and there weren’t be any protests… right?

Was George Floyd handing a gun? How about Breonna Taylor, what was her crime? Philando Castile? I mean we could go on and on.

Soooooo maybe we should try reforming the police and the judicial system?

What’s funny is that no one from the right is saying this. All they’re doing is spiking the football under the perception that this is just a win for them in this demented culture war. As my posts above clearly demonstrate.

He’s absolutely right. The greatest threat to America is an angry and armed white man. We spent trillions to combat “the base” in the Middle East. Our greatest threat is Trump’s base. Whether they’re threatening election officials, attacking our Capitol, disturbing school boards meetings, sending death threats to doctors and scientists, or actually killing people, theyre our democracy’s greatest threats.

did you see this one? Similar to yours.

Our country is developing a bad reputation internationally. Our gun laws make no sense. We’ve given way too much power to the NRA and to this white vigilante mentality. The only places that allow you to open carry AR15s are third world dumps like Somalia. Stand your ground laws create more violence.

Just wait until the next election. “I just can’t believe that these people we vilified won’t vote with us! Obviously they’re racist, ignorant, murdering terrorists! If we just call them that more and make them aware of this, they’re guaranteed to vote with us!”

What’s funny is that your side has made no attempt to win over POC. When elections don’t go your way, you discredit the election, try to overturn them, make it harder to vote, and gerrymander the **** out of districts. Why don’t republicans try and win over POC instead of desenfranchise them?

I don’t get your agenda here. You want more vigilantism? You don’t want to do anything to address systemic racism? You want to perpetuate inequalities and injustices?

Hmmm

Hmmm

When the jury does what I want, then the system works and “the media” will start the looting. But when the jury doesn’t do what I want, I accuse them of being intimidated by outside forces aka “the mob” which insists that the system is broken and we must fight fire with fire.

Funny how that works.

It’s disturbing to me that anyone would call Rittenhouse a hero. It’s disturbing not surprising that the right is exploiting this as a touchdown in their weird culture war.

This is ****ing demented:

These are the folks you defend?

I saw plenty of riots happen where no one died. Even here in Salt Lake City. So far every riot that was attended by rittenhouse holding a gun has resulted in someone dying though.

One of his victims - sorry, rioters - could have also saved hundreds of lives by, say, preventing a chemical spill. Playing what if is fairly pointless
Yes! I cut your quote a bit short, but a huge 'yes' on this. That is why I'm not spouting certainty over some utopian ideal that what would have been achieved "if....'.

Not so coincidentally, it is also why I'm not a socialist. When I see dead bodies that resulted from actions that really happened I don't venture off into imagination to proclaim that utopia would have been achieved through these same actions "if....'. In both cases I think we should stick to reality.

But republicans aren’t actually against protests, riots, or even violence. We saw that all last year as Republicans protested masks, online school, and economic shutdowns. We saw it on Jan 6.

The whole reason why Republicans are making BLM an issue and making Rittenhouse to be Jesus is:

1. They don’t want people to learn about systemic racism. Learning about it makes them feel icky and makes them want to change things. Since 30-40 percent of the population is vulnerable to authoritarian tendencies and the right has clearly embraced authoritarianism, re-establishing a hierarchical society where white Christian males dominate is the preferred social structure.
2. Right wing news outlets want to embrace the hate because it keeps eyeballs onto the teevee. Tucker has said it before, he never wants to be fired again. So like a meth distributer, he’ll do everything possible to maintain his top rated show by delivering purer and harder stuff to his addicts.
3. Republican politicians hope to ride this wave of emotion and culture war to victory in 22.
4. Making Rittenhouse out to be a victim is an attempt to unite the right and engage the base. They’ve tried this with Ashli Babbit and I don’t think it quite worked. We saw last year how Floyd inspired a multi-racial and bipartisan movement. Likewise, we’re seeing the backlash to that in how the right is trying to use Rittenhouse to inspire a homogeneous and partisan backlash.

Unless they vote twice, it doesn't really make a difference.
