A private-sector agreement could help India avert future power outages by importing 9 million tons of coal a year from Kentucky and West Virginia.

Gov. Steve Beshear announced the 25-year, $7 billion agreement between India's Abhijeet Group and Kentucky-based Booth Energy Group and River Trading Co., calling it good news for U.S. coal miners who have lost their jobs because of a decline in domestic coal sales.

Kentucky coal producers have been searching for foreign customers as the U.S. slowly moves away from coal-fired generating plants.

So a few thoughts...

- So now, we don't really care about solving 'global warming', just outsourcing who contributes to it? Oh, and how will the coal be traveling to India, Hybrid Tanker?

- Since the above (Democrats don't care about global warming) is true, why exactly are we helping build industrial superpowers overseas? You know, the kind that thrive on cheap energy? You know, the kind we have right here that we are going to load on to diesel engines, ship to the coast, load on to tankers that both spew carbon and are a threat to sink and spill their coal in to the ocean's ecosystem?

I'm not aware of Biden's comments, but I will say that every person who fell prey to a loan didn't enter into relations with the lender "voluntarily". There were plenty of desperate situations to go along with those that knowingly gambled and over-mortgaged themselves.

Besides, the whole financial deregulation thing is/was a ****ing mess.... which is another reason to back off the "personal responsibility" slogan.

None of you have pointed out anything I said that was not true, except I admit I am not going to get into it about PKM's false assertion that Wall Street has no power except for what people voluntarily give it, or the implication that this would absolve Wall St even if it were true. Do you really want Wall Street to put the American people ( or the world's people) in chains, voluntarily or not?

I am very interested in this. It sounds like you've read a lot into this & have much to offer. What sources have been telling you they are shuttering coal-based power production because nat gas production is cheaper? I actually have seen one instance of this in Utah, for a very short time, but nothing widespread. Are you sure this doesn't have more to do with marginal demand fluctuations & lower met coal consumption in China? For a while there, met was fetching a hefty price & the Australian mines were raking it in. Does this figure into your analysis? What are you using as baseline?

- Stop derailing the thread. You know what you're trying to do!!
- You cannot even answer a simple question, so why should I answer yours?
- Democrats have tried to do good stuff with foreign countries and natural resources while everyone knows Republicans have been doing the bad stuff.

Not to mention the benefits of diversity & that you store coal in large piles instead of relying on upstream delivery that can be interrupted for long periods of time.
