And the Jazz as a team are 1st in ppg allowed and 2nd in defensive efficiency.

He should leading by a large margin right?

He should be the front runner, yes. But he's not.

He's gotta kick someone in the balls first. Pretty sure Green is #1, Rudy #2, Leonard #3 on most media lists.

He'll be ripped off by the NBA's marketing department.

Honestly, for me, it's kind of neck-and-neck between him and Whiteside. Rudy's .5 blocks over Whiteside, but Whiteside is 2.5 boards over Rudy. Are blocks worth that much more than rebounds? I would argue they are, but I wouldn't fight it too hard.

Rudy seems to be exceptional at SMART blocks, too, like Bill Russell was - blocking the ball to your teammate, not to the stands.

are you serious ? I don't think any expert would rank Whiteside in Rudy's league. He's the type of guy who goes hunting for blocks and often leave himself out of position rather than make the smart play. Rudy is a far superior team defender

Wut?

For a comparison Hassan Whiteside is

4th in the NBA in Blocks
4th in the NBA in Blocks Per Game
5th in the NBA in Block Percentage
5th in the NBA in Defensive Win Shares
4th in the NBA in Defensive Rating
Not even in top 20 for Defensive Box Plus/Minus
3rd in the NBA in Total Rebounds
2nd in the NBA in Defensive Rebounds
4th in the NBA in Total Rebound Percentage
2nd in the NBA in Defensive Rebound Percentage

Doesn't seem close to me.

Even if I take the homer glasses off, Gobert is the clear cut best defensive player in the league, but I'm certain the NBA will find a way to give the award to one of the usual suspects (Green or Leonard). Sad...

Proof he's out chasing blocks more than he is D-ing up to win.

If Golden State can keep their top defensive rating (or at least they were last time I looked) with KD being out then I think that pretty much secures the votes for Draymond.

If Rudy Gobert does not win this award I will have to contact the authorities to report a robbery. That's all I have to say. At this point it's not even a close race.

There is no stat for Rudy's affect on the game through intimidation. People in the know, know.

Of course there's no stat for affect. You just have to look at him:

On the contrary, this guy has some pretty bad affect:

I saw something during last night's game that listed Rudy 5th in DPOY voting. Blew my mind.
No way that is right. Are voters that dumb or out of touch?
