You are a real smart guy. His 5 points a game and 4 rebounds were awesome! His two points a game last two years are amazing. KOC is a real idiot for not picking him up.

Talk about smart. Pretty easy when in true knuclehead fashion you leave out the stats we are speaking of to make your point. Let me help you. He also had 1.6 blocks and shot 54% from the field.

Yeah, it's not the greatest comparison. And he doesn't play the game with the same reckless abandon that Birdman does which is probably another strike against him as a project. Maybe playing in China will help to turn him around. But few guys not in the league have his upside. I like it as a one year gamble.

Again as mentioned before blocking a few shots does not make one a good overall defender. 29 other GMs must be real idiots as well.

Find me one scouting report that backs up your claim. You wont find one. He is known as a fine defender. Quit making ish up, aight? And yes they are idiots.

I don't know how big his downside was anyway. He had an altercation with a dude in a cell phone store in early 2009 and smashed a monitor. Red flag? Definitely. Is there a pattern of several such incidents? I simply don't see it.

On the contrary, after the embarrassing and aggressive altercation, he took anger management counseling. Perhaps he was mandated or "encouraged" to do so, but it happened.

And he also picked up his bootstraps and headed overseas for a month or so early this year, where he averaged a double-double, 4 BPG, and zero TOs (somehow). Oh, and he won the CBA dunk contest, FWIW. No news of subsequent incidents that I could see.

That's the type of player that a team that trusts its leadership (and coaching) should take a flyer on for their third-string big man, even if they have to pay more than the minimum.

I don't see where his salary in Israel is disclosed, but it's not the Maccabi team, so I'd reckon that it'd be less than top dollar. Looks like he's gonna play for an assistant coach whom he knows.

Well, here's one more chance at Sean Williams. Certainly smells fishy that he was waived, but he's evidently still available.

Something must have been up, as his replacement is 6'7" 260-pound 30-year-old Sam Clancy--far less of a talent based on basic measurements. If the point of contention was finances, or living overseas, then he's still worth considering. Given that Clancy was playing in Israel recently, it's possible that it was a salary dump by Williams' Israeli team, where they got a cheaper Clancy in return.

If it's attitude or health or getting in trouble (all possibilities), though, then probably not.

In any case, I wonder if it has any impact on the Fesenko negotiations; not sure if the Fes camp would buy the claim that there is yet another journeyman center out there that could fill Fes's shoes. Both Fes's agent and KOC can probably find out the dirt (if any) pretty easily.

This actually happens overseas quite a bit because of scouting issues(mainly a lack thereof). They probably thought Williams could actually play with his back to the basket or something, and when they got a closer look at him and found out that wasn't the case, they got rid of him.

Although, certainly with Sean it could be anything.
 
Team chemistry is more important than skills imo. He would have been a negative influence on the coaches and other players, which is why no one wants him. Even if there was a possibility he could have been good, the odds are against the Jazz.

Greg Ostertag is our witness of why gambling isn't worth it, and Okur seems to be more of an example every year as well.
