Second Attempt at Stand-up Comedy

This actually does raise an interesting point of discussion: is "hate-speech" protected by the constitution? Is it constitutional to have a law restricting freedom of expression in any way? I understand the laws of libel/slander, but that usually revolves around some level of falsehood. "Hate-speech" is someone's opinion. I am not advocating "hate-speech" at all, just wondering about the constitutionality of restricting it. I do not agree with speaking that way, but I will defend to the death your right to say it, is that how the saying goes?

[edit: this also has nothing to do with this website restricting it, as the owners/operators have the right to choose what to moderate]

Yes. We need to censor thought. We must censor all thought that is not with the majority. Let us get this on the books a.s.a.p. You are either with us or you are against us. If you are with us then you are free to speak your mind. If not then you are a hating hater face.

people say hateful things all the time. What makes one hateful comment hate-speech and another acceptable?

If I say the damn Republicans are ruining this country I'd probably be okay. If I said the damn n*****s are ruining this country I'd be spouting hate-speech. What if I said the damn NAACP is ruining this country, am I okay there? I suppose it would depend on the political climate at the time, which I think is a problem.

So the problem to me is that we then have to differentiate between who can be hated upon and who cannot. There simply isn't a just way to do that, imho, so I strongly support allowing people to say whatever stupid thing they want. I've always felt that if we forbid this kind of hate we're really just hiding it. Let's let the idiots expose themselves for who they are and judge them based on their true words and actions.

+1

I also do not understand the differentiation between a crime and a hate crime. If I kill someone for looking at me funny my punishment is less than if I kill someone because they are Muslim? I have killed someone and the reason shouldn't matter or carry a different sentence because someone thought it was or wasn't hateful.

Wow, this thread took an amazing
