Shelf life on uber athletic guards...

Why bring up iversons attitude though.
This thread is simply about FP's thoery that really athletic point guards get injured.

Iverson seemed to be pretty healthy along with those other guys so it looks like the theory is not too solid

I just said that the reason Francis is out of the league is not because of his knee but his toxic locker room presence that just wasn't sustainable when he didn't scratch triple doubles every 2nd night. And in this fashion comparing him to Iverson who himself was very similar is fair.

Uber is German. Man.
Whens the last time youve been to your eye specialist, 1979?

Uber is derived from the German word "Über". When I hopped on the Internet was the first time I saw the word uber connected with english words.

Does D Will fit in this category. I wouldn't call him super athletic like a Westbrook or Rose by his play style is causing injuries and he doesn't seem to be recovering from them. I realize he is different but he seems to be breaking down both physically and mentally.

.....D. Will is definitely an 'Urban Athletic" point guard, who plays with reckless abandon and certainly contributes the amount of injuries he gets and there severity! Iverson was a freak of nature in that he rarely got seriously hurt despite playing out of control most of his career. Of course, his career was cut short by breakdowns both physically and mentally!

Makes sense. The harder you are on your body the more wear and tear. It doesn't make the player dumb. Its just more fun to play that way for some people. Is it more effect? Maybe not. But it sure fun to watch and play that way. You dont get to keep your athleticism, so you might as well have fun with it while you got it.

Most people that hate on people who can jump high and run fast are just people who never could jump and are probably just jealous. (CJachooo)

I think its why LeBron kind of downtoned his explosiveness. He used to be a wrecking ball. Still is.. but not as aggressive.

Ya you......you.....raaaped me...ya you...you raped me..

Thats what I hear when I listen to that song.

...yeah, why not play under control using BOTH your athleticism AND brains, thus extending your career, winning percentage and basketball statistics.....when you can play with RECKLESS abandon, stay hurt half the time, and watch your team go down in flames!

I wonder what it means long term for change of speed, change of direction guards that now basically EVERY single one of them had a major injury in the last year.
Rose - ACL, Meniscus
Westbrook - Meniscus and whatever he has now
Bledsoe - Meniscus
Wall - Patella
Irving - Nagging Injuries
Rondo - ACL
Rubio - ACL
Holiday - Tibia
Paul - Shoulder
Williams - Ankles
Curry - Glass Bones
MCW also already a sour knee...

Very few PGs who have haven't had major health setbacks on their lower body.
But will it impact how teams are willing to pay these guys knowing that a lot of them break down at some point.
You can win a chip with a great (healthy) guard. But if you know you're prolly losing a couple seasons to injuries, are you still willing to hand out D-Rose provision max?
Guys missing that list whose playstyle could make them susceptible to injuries:
Tony Parker, Ty Lawson, Damian Lillard

Someone who has been always healthy and I expect to continue to do that because of his playstyle:
Mike Conley Jr.

Utah might have dodged a bullet if Burke continues to stay out of the paint. Just shooting 3s won't give him a max contract but you may rather pay someone $9M a year to play 82 games + playoffs than pay $15M a year to rehab ACL injuries and provide 30 PPG until the next injury.

Good post/thoughts.
it does make burke seem more stable due to the way he plays. (below the rim, not extremely quick)

Btdubs:
Eric Bledsoe had his meniscus removed, not repaired. Will return this season...
Oh boy this will cost him. Suns will be like: When did Wade start to have problems on his knee that kept him out of the lineup. Instead of 5 years 60 million it's now 4 years, 46. tough luck. Prolly another guy who you wish would retire at 30 cause his body is toast by then.
