What's new

So Harden,Eric Gordon, and CJ McCollum withdraw from Team USA

In this situation (after not having an off-season last year, in preparation of an absolutely huge year), I’m into Donovan playing. We know he is going to take every opportunity to learn from others and every situation. It will be good because it also forces him to play in a situation where he’s with talent and isn’t supposed to take every shot.

Could've, would've, should've. Dante got hurt playing a competitive game for Australia in the off season and it ruined his career.

Players need time to rest. That's why you no longer have people playing 40+ minutes every night like they did 15-20 years ago. The more competitive basketball you play, the more you increase the chance of some kind of injury. I'd much rather our players rest up, heal up, and work with trainers and coaches on their game in the summer than play in Mickey Mouse tournaments like FIBA World Cup.
Agree to disagree

I really hope he gets to play in it, with the standard "I hope he makes it out completely healthy" disclaimer. He deserves the recognition, and it would be nice if some of it rubbed off on the Jazz too.

If he weren't playing for Australia do you think he wouldn't have still been playing basketball? I'm pretty sure he would still have been playing basketball here in the states in some form or another. Whether pick up games at some gym or practicing with the jazz and his teammates. And he still could have gotten hurt.

I mean it would be great if our players only played basketball during actual NBA games and the rest of the time they weren't doing anything physical and they still improved and developed their games anyway.
Unfortunately they need to play basketball in the off season in order to get better.

Yes but basketball in controlled settings for developmental purposes with trainers and whatnot is far less likely to result in injured than full on competitive play. Even pickup games or scrimmages have less risk.

Frankly I think NBA teams should have something of a say in the matter. It is their often fully guaranteed multi-million dollar investment on the line. What has Exum's injury cost the team?

He's at the age where its not going to effect him in the regular season. If he had a lingering injury like an ankle sprain, sure, sit it out.

I'm just going to cheer for Donovan and our other guys participating and not worry about injuries. You can't completely prevent injuries no matter what you do. We just gotta hope for the best tbh.

Does anyone know who’s supposed to be on this team at this point?

These players are still competing for spots...

G Damian Lillard
G Kemba Walker
G Kyle Lowry
G Donovan Mitchell
G/F Bradley Beal
G/F Khris Middleton
F Jayson Tatum
F Harrison Barnes
F Kyle Kuzma
F PJ Tucker
F Paul Millsap
F Tobias Harris
F/C Kevin Love
C Andre Drummond
C Brook Lopez
C Myles Turner

My best guess on the final team is...
PG: Lillard/Walker/Lowry
SG: Beal/Mitchell
SF: Middleton/Tatum
PF: Harris/Kuzma or Barnes/Love or Millsap
C: Drummond/Turner

That’s what insurance us for. For most people around the world, playing for your national team means more than the NBA.
