What's new

Start Mitchell at the Point.

How tempted in the back of rubios mind would he be tempted to sit out these next 2 games? Cause if they lose people will say it's all rubios fault. Being rubios contract year I think if I was Rubio I would consider sitting out the next 2 games!

I think Rubio ought to take stock of his value and what he can contribute to a possible title run for the Jazz in the future. He certainly has a good 3-4 prime years left. As a vet with a good basketball IQ, he should see that there are limitations to his game, but that he also has skills and savvy that could help the Jazz as a solid backup: ball handling, passing, and good free throw shooting. He's a guy the Jazz could put in to close out games to handle defensive pressure and shoot foul shots, not to try to take over games but control them. He certainly has value in doing this. I'd ask him if he could fill this role. If he agrees, I'd keep him at what would be a reasonable cost for such a role. If not, then I would let him go.

There's an article today in the Tribune about this very issue.

Here are some snippets:

Mitchell does concede that having the ball in his hands more has empowered him to play more aggressively, as he now has a better understanding of where his looks can come from within the Jazz’s schemes. And he also said he has “gotten to the point where I feel mentally comfortable,” mostly because he’s become better at knowing where the four teammates on the court with him are going and what precisely they’ll be doing.

For what it’s worth, Snyder was a bit taken aback at that revelation. “I haven’t seen the doubt. He’s been pretty good at suppressing it,” he said. “And he’s just been instinctive. And he doesn’t have to play like anybody else. He needs to do the things that he’s going to be effective doing. I think it’s more of a progression that he’s made throughout the season, and all of a sudden you start to see it more.”

“Ricky’s a huge part of what we do—his ability to defend the ball, to make shots, to make clutch shots,” Jazz head coach Quin Snyder said on Sunday. “He’s playing really well. Our team is better when we have him.”

Rubio ain't going anywhere. I fully expect DL to overpay him this summer.

Terrible news. I'm not sure if DL wants but Snyder does. He's to slow

If the resign Rubio it will be one of the worst decisions they've made. Especially if they give him good money. It will oh no moment

But then again what else is he supposed to say? We have Rubio for the rest of the season, we might as well talk him up and make him feel good and use him the best way we can the rest of the way.

I don't think we can read into what we'll do in the Summer at all.

He doesn't have to say all that. C'mon man. Its not like he has to build Rubio up to the media.

He was asked about Rubio coming back and could have easily said "we are happy to have him back." He went overboard. Sends a strong message Rubio ain't going anywhere.

That's fine for this year, but the future is where I'm concerned. I want Donovan to get time at PG. How does that happen with Rubio AND Exum?

He didnt go overboard. He said all facts about Rubio. Doesnt mean anything about Rubio's long-term future with the team.
