Love this tone from Biden: "When I ran for president, I was told the days of bipartisanship were over," he said. "That Democrats, Republicans could no longer work together. I refused to believe that because America can never give into that way of thinking."
"I know bipartisanship is hard, and unity is hard," he said. "But we can never stop trying. Because in the moments like this one, the ones we just faced, where the American economy the world economy is at risk of collapsing, there's no other way, no matter how tough our politics gets, we must see each other not as adversaries but as fellow Americans."

Reiterating one of his key lines from his inaugural address, he urged Americans to "stop shouting, lower the temperature and work together to pursue progress."


So different from what trump has to say about our country and government.


In his Oval Office address, Biden notably commended McCarthy and the GOP and White House negotiating teams for being "completely honest and respectful with one another," as well as praising the work of other top congressional leaders.

"They acted responsibly to put the good of the country ahead of politics," Biden said, adding that "both sides kept their word."

As Biden worked behind-the-scenes to hammer out the deal, he at times frustrated Democrats -- members of the party's progressive wing, especially -- who worried he was giving in too much to Republican demands.

At one point, several in his party urged him to go it alone and use the 14th Amendment to unilaterally raise the debt ceiling, an idea Biden ultimately rejected in this situation, but one he said he would study.

"I have been clear that the only path forward is a bipartisan compromise that can earn the support of both parties," he said earlier this week. "This agreement meets that test."

I also love that he doesn't seem to try to make it all about him and take all the credit for getting this passed. Something we all know trump would do.
 
Who wants this? I know there’s a handful probably on this site. But they don’t understand how unpopular this would be to us normal people. To those of us who aren’t Nazis and don’t spend 23 hrs a day online, this is disgusting

Biden might not be perfect, but consider the alternative. You’re either voting for Biden or Trump/Rename forts after confederates who killed American soldiers.

To be honest this is something I dont really care about one way or the other. I didn't even know fort bragg was named after anyone/anything. I think its stupid that desantis or his voters think its a big deal that it needs to be called fort bragg and I think its stupid that anyone opposes it being called fort bragg. Its just a name of a place. I dont really care what its called. Call it fort hilter. I dont care.

This decision is truly disgusting. It institutionalizes racism. This ruling is a new Dred Scott or Plessey vs. Ferguson.

The Republicans drew congressional boundaries that give them the highest chances of getting the most Republican representatives. You may not like it but political affiliation is not protected by the 14th Amendment or the Civil Right Act which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. This decision imposes a racial litmus test on representatives. The Federal government is forcing changes on how states conduct their elections, a power which the US Constitution explicitly grants to the states, so the Federal government can choose the race of the representatives. This decision codifies Federal discrimination on the basis of race and color. The only people who should be cheering this decision are bigots who still hold the belief the color of your skin means something more than the size of your feet or any other genetic characteristic.

I agree that is how you see it. You often see things in a strange way though. Your first sentence could be altered a bit by saying:

Bigotry. The sentence could be altered by bigots who see skin color above all else. The job of the RNC is to get Republicans elected. Bigots see race everywhere they look. The district maps were drawn to give the greatest advantage to getting Republicans elected and the Federal Government has stepped in to impose a racial litmus test on representatives as if they were casting directors. The district map may have been an unfair exercise in power, dirty, under-handed, whatever, but this decision by SCOTUS to counter gerrymandering is nothing short of establishing institutional racism at the Federal level. Clarence Thomas' dissent on this open display of racially motivated jurisprudence is brutal and perfect. Bigots won the day when this decision came down.

The latter. In American politics, anything before about 90-days to the primary vote is considered "silly season". It is when the nuts come out to play. At around the 90-day mark the two political parties start heavily funding the candidates they intend to win the nomination and the nuts wither away. It is supposed to be a display of how open-to-all-comers our system is while making sure the power of the two political parties isn't actually challenged. Enjoy the show.

The culture wars are in large part a reactionary lurch against modernity. Few things more futile in the long run. Recall that philosopher of science Thomas Kuhn explained how new paradigms destined for acceptance do not receive that acceptance until the earlier generation opposing change simply passes away. Or, as it’s been put: science advances one funeral at a time.

All this is to say, from my perspective, come back to the United States in 50-100 years and you won’t find us living in a pre 1950 world. The war against modernity will fail. Not that conservative concerns are meaningless, I share a lot of conservative values myself.
