The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

Do we think Clippers are trending towards rebuild? They wont do firesale/tanking things for a while since they dont control their draft, but they may be interested in trading some of their vets for some young blood like they did with Zubac and Harden.

I'm really thinking snatching Dunn back. He knows Hardy offense, has chemistry with some of our guys and provides the type of skillset we need (POA defense, secondary handling, some additional playmaking, low usage).

Does something like Flip for Dunn resonate with you guys? This obviously depends a bit on where we land in the draft, but even if we get someone like DP it wouldnt hurt to have Dunn in the locker room and playing with the 2nd unit.

What's his contract like? Has he kept up his decent 3pt shooting since leaving the Jazz? I haven't really paid attention.

Preferably Harkless can get signed on the cheap and provide that role for us.

He has made 36.2% from 3 this season with about 3 attempts per game. He makes 5M and would be expiring.

I keep forgetting about Harkless though. You may be correct in that he is good enough but I know Dunn was pretty good as a starter with Sexton in 2023-24 season, once he got the nod.

I'm not necessarily opposed to reacquiring Dunn (though it could be considered a fringe move that probably doesn't need much priority at this point), but wouldn't Vince Williams also be in the mix to fill this role? Granted he may lack Dunn's experience with Hardy's offense, but he's six years younger, cheaper and already under contract.

It's a good call, makes sense for both teams. The Clippers are transparently shifting old players for younger players. This would align with everything they've been doing. Dunn provides a lot of what I think the Jazz should be looking for. He can with and without Key and perimeter defense is the biggest talent need.

Just to play devils advocate, here's what would be my reservations:

1. I really like the defensive combo guard market in FA. So if we can get a younger/better player in FA, might as well.

2. We might already have the younger/better version of Dunn in Vince Williams

I think a Dunn/Flip is a good trade, but if that were offered to us at deadline I would be ok on declining the offer to see if we have better options in the summer or at home. But if we don't land a FA or like our internal options, this is a very sound move.

I'm not on board with trading Filip, especially after the JJJ trade. JJJ's skillset complement Filip perfectly. Also keep in mind now we probably don't have enough money to bring back Nurk in the summer when JJJ's max money gets added to our payroll.

I mean, if the cost is a 2nd swap or something, just stack the depth. Vince is way more a 2 anyway; you can play both.
