The Real Decision - Gobert and Burke

Having said that, I don't know if Ty did anything to help this team play defense together.

If Gobert is a starting center, and Favors is the starting PF, who scores in the front court? One of them has to have a real offensive game.

I agree not sure why this "decision" just comes down to Burke and Gobert. You can certainly say that about the entire roster including Favors. IMO Burke has the potential to be the best player out of your entire core. Usually players make the biggest leap with 2 or 3 years. So while guys are super young and that always bolds well for improvement I think Burke is the guy to expect the biggest leap from.

The only other person under contract with the value to help you move up is Favors. I don't see the Jazz trading him and he is more difficult to move than the other two with his current contract. Burks might help you move up but not so much IMO

I hope that we don't look back at the last 3 years and realize how much having Corbin as the head coach actually hurt the players development.

Even if he can't be a starter, Gobert can and will be a very good back-up center, and those are also rare. If we don't pick up a major big in the off-season, there will be plenty of minutes for Favors-Kanter-Gobert. Unless Embiid falls to 5, that's our likely big rotation next year; why make a so-called decision on any of them?

Only if you want a chance to move up.

6th most was not enough.

Should Kanter have taken minutes from Burke, Hayward, Burkes, Favors, or Jefferson?

Also he should have been in at the same time with favors more.

So you think playing favors and marvin together more than favors kanter helps the jazz going forward more

Yes, because it lets both Favors and Kanter play in the post, giving them each development time and shots. What's your rationale for playing them together?

Answer to your first question: he should have taken even more minutes from marv..... burks should have taken more of jeffersons minutes

Second question: my rational for playing them more together would be to find out how they play together. Can they be our version of randolph and gasol? griffin and deandre? Love and pekovic?

We still dont know and will probably have to use next season to find out instead of last season which was the perfect year to find out what works or not

Would you have sacrificed Kanter's shot attempts for Favor's, or Favors' for Kanter's? Williams used very few shots.

Kanter could have taken some of haywards shots (and treys too) which probably would have helped hayward not be under so much pressure to carry the scoring load

I say every year we trade our last years pick in hopes of picking up someone better because they will always suck after 1 year in the NBA. (very few exceptions)
This should be the new Jazz philosophy going forward. We can be the new Clippers of days gone by.

That's it, exactly.
And the very same argument could be had in terms of Hayward and Burks. Sure Alec got 28 mins/per, but we really needed hose minutes to be with the rest of the starters. Why do we always refer to "team defense?" It's because the players have to develop chemistry together, to know how each will react to different scenarios. And the same holds true on offense. You learn to play off each others tendencies and strengths and weaknesses. And the only way to do that is by getting time on the court...TOGETHER!

Brook Lopez is the best offensive center in the league and he doesn't play good D. His team got better when he went down.

This reality has me worried about centers who aren't good at defense. Kanter isn't near as good as Lopez and just as bad at D.

Kanter is 22. Lopez is 26. Kanter missed a lot of opportunities to play. I think he has more overall upside than Favors. I'd put him above Favors right now. Kanter is a decent one on one defender due to his size/strength. He had trouble on the pick and roll, but I think under the right coach he'd improve. I don't see Favors improving on offense. At least not much.

False choice

Should Kanter have taken minutes from Burke, Hayward, Burkes, Favors, or Jefferson?

That is a false choice. If Kanter gets 75 minutes from Williams, he has the third most minutes on the team, behind only Hayward and Burke (2213)

Both of these are great. Someone please rep these guys for me.

I think Favors will improve offensively but everything you said about Kanter is true.

Why are we giving up on him? He's just starting to get it.
