What's new

The Willy Hernangomez thread

I find his being out of the rotation strange so I’m eager to learn more, because his production wasn’t a complete aberration last night (>20 PER, not unlike TB).

Tony’s been good, I really like his effort and his hands. I still question his IQ, his lateral quickness which I think he does his best with, and he generally just looks... sloppy, for lack of a better word. I don’t think his weaknesses or his experience (he is basically a rookie) make a strong case for a rotation player in the playoffs. I would like the Jazz to continue searching.

Hernangomez objectively played quite well last night (yes, in garbage time). If he’s just a little more sure-footed, comfortable shooting threes, and has a little better IQ then that looks like an upgrade to me.

I like the idea of chasing him in the summer... he could develop into something more but I thing he’s as good of a project as Bradley but without the institutional knowledge. TB is making slight improvements... I’m definitely not his biggest fan and I think his ceiling is pretty “meh” but he looks like he’s getting it... just not intuitive yet. Kind of like how Mudiay was doing things right sometimes but you could tell it wasn’t really natural... now we can see he’s more comfortable and thinking less.

His lateral quickness and reaction times are pretty good. Other teams and the playoffs will look like what happens when the mice realize that owl you have outside isn’t real. Or when the kids taking **** on your porch realize the camera you put up is a dummy camera with a red light on it.

They lost that game by 40... I know you don’t like Bradley but this guy doesn’t fix the things you don’t like about Bradley. I’d rather go get Udoh or Bogut.

Not trying to be a negative Nancy... I think it’s the position we most need to upgrade but I don’t think this guy is the answer.

You know I’m totally down for Bogut and Udoh.

very true. in fact i'd honestly believe Bradley would be able to put up comparable stats on that hornets team had he played in that game. there was hardly any defense being played

He hit a floater. All of JF will want him now.

I know... you were also team Ed... let Bradley marinate and wait until something solid... that is obviously better shakes loose. I think the biggest thing Willy has going for those that are intrigued is that he’s not Tony.

We need to be activate (**** I’m sounding like DL) and hope something good happens but TB is playable until then and may bump his trade value up enough that someone will swap an expiring solid center for him... cough... Phoenix... cough.

That’s dangerous, though. For every decent game, you get a DL feeling very vindicated in his guy. Next think you know we roll into the playoffs with TB as the backup.

Yes but JZ just sends him on a vacay and then trades him like he did with Exum. I think TBs numbers will always look better than his actual play... I know GMs do deeper dives than blog boys... but good numbers will boost his value.

I think he’s about as effective as TB... And he’s 3 years older and unfamiliar with our system. If we go get anyone I want them to be a clear upgrade.

If we get for NWG and a 2nd, that’s an upgrade. It’s also another wrinkle we can throw at teams. A stretch 5. We don’t have that now. And it’s also insurance. Should Bradley go down, do we want to have to depend on Davis again? Don’t get me wrong, you could do a lot worse but...

Now, the flipside to that is do we want basically four guys on the roster who are pure 5’s in Davis, Gobert, Bradley and Hernangomez. Positional flexibility is important.

That said, NWG brings **** to the table so if we lose him, who gives a ****.

You said it in the last sentence. NWG ain’t giving us positional flexibility, and there are about 40 guys ahead of him in the rotation.

Is that Rafael Araujo?

Is that Rafael Araujo?
Lol. I though of Araujo earlier today, too, when I looked at his skin tone and tats. I probably liked that guy more than anyone else did (most people hated him). Thought he should have been allowed to guard Duncan more in the WCF.

My signature for the longest time was “No Hoffa, no pain. Know Hoffa, know pain.”

I like how after every game we pick a random player who plays with our opponent and then make a trade thread about them.

It’s a new policy here at JazzFanz.

Ok.. who’s going to start the Willy Hernangomez thread? I think we need a rule that anyone we play who looks somewhat passable gets a thread.

Are the Hernangomez brothers the Property Brothers?
