I don't give KOC much credit for signing Jefferson (a great signing). That trade fell right into his lap when Kahn gave away Jefferson for salary cap room. Any GM after losing Boozer, Mathews and Korver would have said yes to taking on Jefferson. It was a no brainer, perfect for KOC.
Signing Bell was nice, but may not have been required if KOC would have just gave Mathews a five year 25 million dollar offer at 12:01 instead of waiting for Portland to set the market.
Now KOC is playing games with Fes. Eventually Fes will sign the one year tender for a million and is agents will be pissed. They are seeking a multi-year deal around 2 million per year. I'd give Fess a three year six million contract today. He's 23 with upside. Next year we lose Fes because KOC is not as good at his job as everyone thinks.
When you have a player seeking max money that is when you let other teams set the market. When you have a young up and coming player with potential like Mathews and Fes you should be proactive not reactive.
For example, Andray Blatche just signed a new contract when he still had 2 years left on his deal. KOC would never do this.

I been watching summer league ball for years and actually attended the first Rocky Mountain review games. I don't get too excited about summer league. Now I did watch every single summer league game Hayward played and didn't get excited. I see a lot of people overreacting to box scores. Hayward played timid on offense. He got a lot of points at the end of games shooting foul shots.
You are right not to take away too much from summer league because it can be deceiving, but I know whether a guy can play by watching summer league. Sanders can play in this league.

I knew somebody would bag on Washington when I made the comment. With all their problems they are an easy target. Say what you will signing Blatche to a cheap five year extension was smart.
AK for Wallace....
while they are at it, what other all-star can they trade an overpaid, oft injured player for?
Okur for Dwight Howard perhaps?
This is the sort of **** that makes Jazzfanz unbearable to read.
Swinging from one emotional extreme to another, I guess it is the American way.
And as far as Matthews is concerned, the Jazz have done everything right. Matthews wasn't worth even what you were offering and even still, you never bid against yourself (that's kind of the first rule when you hold cards in negotiations). Just because Portland made one of the most retarded decisions of the offseason doesn't mean that the Jazz did anything wrong.
Also, Fesenko is an idiot and his agent is an *******. The Jazz are doing what they should there as well.
In summary; you have no ****ing clue what you're talking about.
First the jazz drafted Elder Hayward, a guy with very limited lateral movement instead of Larry Sanders.
Now a trade of AK for Diaw. Bad, very bad. If this trade goes down the Jazz lose at least 5 more games than last year. Check the per stats between Boris and AK. Its not even close. That was before Diaw discovered french pastries and became the pillbury diawboy over the summer.
Say it with me people. Say No to Diaw.
We want Gerald Wallace if we are going to trade AK.
To deny financials don't play any part of basketball is like sticking your head in the sand. Only a few teams, like the Yankees, Lakers and Blazers (and now Nets) have owners with extremely deep pockets. Sanders over Hayward is your personal opinion. We can't argue that because neither has played one minute of NBA basketball. You could very well be right. But I think we could all agree that Al Jefferson >>>> Sanders. KOC had been working on the Jefferson deal for over a year. I think he knew it was pretty close to being finalized when the draft took place. In fact, I think the only thing that held it up was that KOC was trying to move up and get Cousins.Chad its clear you don't value AK as much as I do. But just because you can't get Wallace doesn't mean you give up and take any fat piece of pastry eating crap. Hold out for someone better. I feel like AK for Diaw is how you feel about AK for Wallace, completely one-sided.
I'm sure the only friends in attendance to that party would be the five on his right and the five on his left and its a member only after party.that party will last five minutes until you realize that Diaw is softer, slower, fatter and much, much worse.
