Top 5 Targets for Summer 2018

At this point, by the way these guys are playing, by the way they are supporting one another, I wouldn’t change a thing. And if Exum becomes the player that we all thought he would be... lookout.

Resign Favors
Resign Exum

I’m starting to believe that this team, as presently constructed - with Thabo coming back - will become championship contenders in the not so distant future.

The Mailman delivers!

I unfortunately think favors might leave so i would say his replacement and resigning Dante should be the FOs priority

Thabo is old and coming off an injury. I think the likelihood of a steep decline is very real. His minutes have been replaced by Crowder and O'Neale. I wouldn't be surprised to see DL decline his option (and Jerebko's) to go after FA's. Udoh's option is likely exercised...unless Favors agrees to return before it has to be picked up.

I think you're right. Question is if he gets that from a playoff team or not - I think after this playoffs, guys like him will be looking to get paid by teams like the Jazz. At least, I hope.
Medicinal marijuana is on the ballot this year in Utah. If it passes, who knows.

If we're able to resign everyone back this off-season, we still will be a 2nd rd playoff team. The Jazz need to do even more this off-seaon if they want to contend with the big boys. PG13 or whomever that would put us over the 2nd rd hump, we need to get that. Hopefully, we will.

I highlighted this because I'm fairly convinced it was injuries (again) that killed us, not an outright lack of talent. DM was forced to play out of position against the best regular season team in the league because everyone else not named Rubio sucked at PG. I'm curious how much Ricky would have helped in the Houston series. The offense was largely stagnant, we needed scoring punch, someone to hit FTs, and extra bodies on CP that could play D (which I'm happy Paul finally broke that demon, but that's beyond the point). Basically, we needed Rubio.

Assuming Ricky returns to form next year, Mitchell is going to unload on the league. Ricky may not be an all-star, but post-break, he was at 15.0 PPG, 5.3 Reb, 5.6 ast, shooting 43.6% FG, 40.9% from 3, at TS% of 56.6%, 98 DefRtg, a 16.1 NetRtr and a 23.7 Usage rating. Utah missed him more than anyone realizes. More or less, you have to defend both Ricky and Mitchell when both are on the floor because both facilitate on this team and are damn good in pinch. Ricky had 20 points or better 15 times this year. Utah is 12-3 when that happens (and this was throughout the year). Missing Ricky meant that Houston focused on DM and took him out of his game, which hurt us in the end.

I do think we need another scoring option, but outside of PG13 and Cousins who will be out of price range unless we someone get Burks off the books, there isn't anyone that tickles my fancy. The Lakers are open to dealing anyone on their team and Boston is going to open up their team to go after LBJ or maybe PG. If we could grab a Brown, Tatum, or Kuzma without giving up overly much as part of all that? We're set.

Just went through the last few pages and missed the Carroll talk earlier this month. Warming up to the idea of him as a starting four. Didn’t know he was rebounding decently. 8 rebounds per 36 is respectable. Most of these crappy guys we talk about at the four grab like 6 rebounds per 48.

Thanks for restarting the conversation @Ellis269. I agree with so much:

1. Trade all nonguaranteeds (Udoh, JJ and Thabo), #52, a future 2nd for Carroll and #29. Giving them that much savings is like giving cash for a late 1st which is common.
2. Draft BPA with #21 and #29. Use both, trade up, whatever I trust DL.
3. Bring back Exum.
4. Sign Hezonja using MLE.
5. Bring back Favors if he wants to return at less than $10 or a strong 1 year deal.

DL is just being PR correct with that letter. He traded the dude. I don't know if anyone has watch Hood play in the playoffs but he hasn't just been bad, he as been awful. Refused to go into a game, asked out of another game and his shooting has been awful. When Hood doesn't make shots he is pretty worthless. Jazz can do better.

The only former Jazz player worth bring back is DMC. Never wanted the guy to go, Quinn and him worked together in Atlanta, he can guard 2-4, and shoot the three. He loved it in Utah and would thrive in our system.

Bates-Diop didn’t measure out quite as long as I thought he would but he’s still long as hell and I really want him at the 3/4 to be a defensive stopper but one who can contribute 9-14 points in a couple years. I really want to package an extra 2nd or two to move up higher in the 2nd round for him.

I want Musa (I think) in the 1st. We need a legit offensive player who can dribble drive and shoot and be a real threat that defenses must respect. I do have legit concerns about his personality amongst other stuff (not his hunch or back though) from what I’ve read though.

I agree that Rubio 's injury didn't give us a true reading on the Houston series. Houston is going to have some contractual problems in bring back the same team. I think if Rubio played may the series is a six or seven game series. However, I agree that the Jazz need at least one or two guys who can make shots if the offense breaks down.

I like the idea of PG but one thing that bothered me in the OKC series was his shot selection. He would sometimes throw up a wild shot without even thinking about it. Now, I am sure it had to do with OKC not really having a system but he would do it in Indy too. He wants to be the "guy" without regard of winning basketball. I think he really respects DM and even though the possibility is small, I think he would at least listen to the Jazz pitch.

I know it is a couple years down the line but I would be watching what is happening in Boston. They are loaded at the 2/3 position. Rozier has blossomed at the PG position. He would be great on the Jazz. Not a great shooter but he does other things besides shooting. He is also been a backup. Plus the Louisville connection might help. I know people think I am crazy but there is no way that Boston can keep Irving Horford, Hayward, Brown, and Tatum. Snagging Brown or Tatum would be awesome but as likely as getting Lebron.

I would love to see paul george in a Jazz uniform but I think he will end up in LA with LBJ.

Players I could see the Jazz talking to this summer.

Avery Bradley - He has an awful year do the Jazz might be able to buy low and hope he can get back his old form. 1+1 maybe. This would mean Burks is gone sooner then alter.
Channing Frye - might be worth a bench look to back up the PF spot
Jabari Parker - this is a long shot but I like the idea of a SnT for him. High risk/High reward type.
Nemanja Bjelica - I could see him on the roster but I don't see him as a starter but a bench reserve his defense is not good enough to start
Julius Randle - I know this a hot topic and much debated but I think he would be a great fit. I think with in this offense he can get better shot and the training staff can get his shot better.
Tyreke Evans - I like his punch coming in off the bench
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute - I think if the Jazz let favors walk Luc would be a nice replacement
Kevon Looney - might be a viable option to groom as a solid back up PF
Glen Robinson III - He might be worth looking at for a solid bench role
Jerami Grant - would be a great get for a PF again if favors leaves
Joe Harris - is one of my favorite non jazz players in the NBA
Mario hezonja - of course

Bates-Diop didn’t measure out quite as long as I thought he would but he’s still long as hell and I really want him at the 3/4 to be a defensive stopper but one who can contribute 9-14 points in a couple years. I really want to package an extra 2nd or two to move up higher in the 2nd round for him.
Zero chance Bates-Diop is available in the second round. He very likely goes before the Jazz pick in the first.

trade targets this summer too

Kevin Love - If the Cavs blow up their team Love would be a nice fir next to gobert
Justice Winslow - I like him in the draft (as did the celtics) and he might be had in a trade
Otto Porter jr - I love on this team
Serge Ibaka - Would be a win now move

1.) Derrick Favors - team friendly deal.
2.) Dante Exum - team friendly deal.
3.) DeMarre Carroll - just because I Think he’s a perfect fit and want him back.
4.) MLE - Tyreke Evans, Mario Hezonja or Joe Harris - one more offensive playmaker.
5.) Rookie wing/guard or stretch 4/5 - someone with major upside.
I’m no expert when it comes to free agency, but I just don’t see how Tyreke Evens signs here for the MLE, Amy I wrong on that? I would love him here as a secondary scorer coming off the bench for the MLE.
Thabo is old and coming off an injury. I think the likelihood of a steep decline is very real. His minutes have been replaced by Crowder and O'Neale. I think Jerebko still has lots of value as an injury replacement, in that he’s not a complete scrub, and can give u a solid emergency replacement for injury, and a good locker room guy who doesn’t mind getting lots of DNPCD’s, but when called upon, is capable of stretching the floor, playing good defense and giving you 12-15 points on a good night.
If we're able to resign everyone back this off-season, we still will be a 2nd rd playoff team. The Jazz need to do even more this off-seaon if they want to contend with the big boys. PG13 or whomever that would put us over the 2nd rd hump, we need to get that. Hopefully, we will.
Disagree there will be internal improvements, we could get third seed and have our starting pg for the second round we are a threat against anyone

Again not an expert, but isn’t he way over paid?
