Top 5 Targets for Summer 2018

Saw an interesting fan trade that may work draft day and made some sense.

Lakers ship Kuzma, Deng, and #25 to Utah for Udoh, Thabo, Jarebko, and Burks
Denver ships #14 for #21, #25, and #52
Utah ships #21, Udoh, Thabo, Jarebko, and Burks for Deng, Kuzma, and #14.

Lakers get cap space for their pending bonanza, Denver accrues some additional picks to build out their roster as they need, Utah gets Kuzma as their stretch 4 and #14 to grow along with Mitchell while eating Deng's contract for a few years. I like it myself.

Must be a jazz fan. Lol. We get Kuzma and future star since it’s Denver giving the pick for a bunch of guys that rarely get off the bench, I think not

Lakes would rather stretch provision Deng then give up Kuzma

Just catching up on this Kuzma conversation. I think it's highly unlikely that we could realistically pursue him, but LA seems to be willing to listen to all offers. http://www.basketballinsiders.com/sources-lakers-telling-teams-no-players-untouchable-in-trades/ Considering he does have a really strong relationship with Mitchell AND the state of Utah plus our need for spacing/scoring from PF, I'm sure the FO has at least discussed it briefly.

I'm just going to break down the pieces in play if we were to even consider it:

Kuzma - great asset on a even better contract. Probably represents a 2nd option level player. By 2nd option, I mean he looks like he can be a great Robin to a Batman for a really, really good team. In terms of value, I'd say he's worth multiple decent first rounders. If it were one pick, it would probably take a top 5 pick to get him. He's not a perfect player, but he does have great value.

Deng - horrible contract of $18 the next two seasons. Stretching is highly unlikely this season because it would cost the Lakers $8 million per season for the next 5 if they were to do it. In terms of value, I'd say LA would have to sacrifice a lottery level type pick for a team to absorb Deng's contract without giving that much salary back. If LA wants a summer of anything, their chances are even greater if they aren't paying Deng $18 million the next two years.

Our non-guaranteeds - to the right team (a repeater luxury team, a team looking to open up max space, etc.), the non-guaranteeds are worth a 1st that is outside the lottery. Flipping the non-guaranteeds for Deng for example, would be worth a better first rounder than LA currently has (#25).

#21 - If we were rating trade assets on a scale from 1 to 10, I would say that #21 probably represents a 2 or 3. It's not going to get a good current player by itself.

So overall, we would need to offer non-guaranteeds, #21, a future 1st, and 2nd rounders for Kuzma and Deng. And that's probably just the conversation starter.

Maybe I'm completely crazy on this, but I wouldn't mind having Deng, especially if we can get Kuzma. I think Quin can get something out of him as a backup stretch four.

I guess you better start praying that LeBron and PG want to team up in LA and Lakers will sell everyone to be a contender next year.

That is exactly the hope. In my opinion, we are legit contenders in 2019 or 2020 and beyond. IF the Lakers get LeBron and Paul George on max deals this summer, the shelf life isn't that long. And that is if they can lure LeBron. If they only get Paul George, that team doesn't worry me at all. Golden State and the Lakers would be legit contenders for the next couple years and then there is a chance for someone else to emerge in the West. Age and finances will start catching up to the Lakers and Warriors.

I think the Lakers are arrogant enough to dump one of their young guys in order to make a massive splash this summer.

Denver does not need more draft picks. Draft picks are the last thing they need to be honest. They have a roster full of young players already. Many of of them can't even get onto the floor (Beasley, Lydon, Hernangomez, for example) because there is youth in front of them already. Denver needs to consolidate some of the youth that they have into quality rotation/role players. Not add more youth to an already overcrowded bench.

@Cy

The Lakers would be absolutely ignorant to stretch Deng right now. $8 million per year for 5 seasons is a massive number for wasted space. If LA stretches Deng, it would be next summer. Even, its almost $4 per year.

Right now the Jazz should offer Hezonja and harris this offseason and call it successfull

Hezonja 6'8"
Harris 6'6"

I agree, these are two of my top three free agent targets this summer, along with Bjelica. How much do you think it would cost to sign both of them?
