Trade Millsap and pick up Tyson Chandler?

Why does everyone want to get rid of Milsap so much? I don't want to see him anywhere but Utah. He is smart, versatile, clutch, great attitude. He also has roots with the Jazz at a time when not many players on our team have been here for more than a year, I feel like that's very important with so many new and young members of our team. The only players I would take in return for him are so unrealistic that no team would go for it.

Agree!! I don't see the jazz starting the season without Millsap. Remember Greg really likes him and paid big money at the time to keep Millsap in Utah. Plus look what happened when he let portland steal Mathews away from us.

Millsap is a bargain at what we're paying for him. He's reliable, consistent, constantly improving, and never stops working. I agree that he's the one guy I wouldn't trade because he's probably the most dependable player on the team.

I like you.

Because he is an undersized PF that does not have the skills to play SF for a significant amount of time. And he was terrible on the defensive end last year getting completely dominated by bigger PF's. Also his backup from last year should have been starting over him by the end of the year (Favors).

I would keep Millsap if he would accept his role as a backup PF. But I find it hard to believe that a guy like him will accept this role. Especially since he did not handle going to the bench very well the last time he was demoted. Simply put Favors is > than Millsap now and going forward.

Furthermore Millsap is one of our best trade pieces and we could really use a good PG and SF. We are stacked at PF.

because its convenient for people to dismiss millsap's valuable contribution as he is already at his peak and it is likewise convenient to project that the young players after him will produce much more better numbers in the future.

you are right. But everyone acts like a player only "Peaks" for one or two years. Milsap is just reaching his peak and I believe he will be there for at least 4 years. He is exactly what this team needs in the coming years. He's the perfect age and at the right point in his career. Plus, knowing Milsap, the longer he goes without getting that title, the hungrier he will get. Imagine this team when all our young guys are just coming into theirs, and he knows he is coming to the end of the plateau. IMHO Milsap is key......the future is bright.

Right now, nobody is at a point to take the starting job from him. When somebody threatens him, the Jazz might explore options for getting rid of the best non-rookie contract on the team.

All the Jazz are doing is seeing what offers come up which is exactly what they should be doing. I don't think a good enough offer will come in. Millsap isn't going any where.

I think Chandler's overrated in general (I credit Dwayne Casey more for Dallas' D than Chandler himself) and is certainly not ideally aged for a rebuild. He's also going to command a contract worth too much money.

As far as Millsap goes, this just looks like a non-sequitor TRADE MILSAP 2 SMALL 4 BALL thread to me.

1. Agree with those who feel Chandler's price tage is too high for the likely return he will provide. On one hand - you can say "he's only 29" but he's a 10-year vet who will have alot of mileage in the middle and end of a 4-year deal. And don't forget the back issues that allowed him to only play 45 games in 08-09 and 51 games in 09-10. This just isn't the right time to spend for a vet like Chandler.

2. Millsap is as good of an off-the-bench PF as you'll find. I've really liked the idea of him being the guy Favors has to compete against for a starting spot - because nobody works harder than Millsap. He'll make Favors a better player, a harder worker, and a tougher competitor.
I know there's concerns because Sap said something to the effect of "I envision myself as a starter" but come'on, he's got some pride and what else is he supposed to say? Everything we've ever seen from Sap says at the end of the day he'll do whatever it takes to help the team - so in my opinion his attitude towards being a starter still isn't an issue until he makes it one.

I agree

And what chance do the Jazz have in signing Chandler?

Probably pretty close to zero. I mean, he's a top FA, why the hell would he go to Utah?

vslice nailed it in his post, so I'll just add a little of what I've been saying:

Millsap only needs to play 7min +/- minutes at the SF to make minutes bountiful for all concerned. He can do this. If starting is important to him, and Favors has earned a role as a starter, then consider starting Millsap at the 3 and then shifting him at the first substitution 5 minutes into the game.

Or (and this is a position I'm gravitating toward), bring Al off the bench. what a novel idea! Let him run a two-man game in the second unit.... allowing the Jazz to control the flow/tempo of the game while the second unit is out there (something we were unable to do last year). Start Favors at the 5.

This is a three- or four-man competition for minutes. It's not all about Favors vs. Millsap.
